I'm still addicted to the original; never could get excited about the rest.

However, I would love to actually be able to choose what tanks/armor my side is equipped with at times (There are American and German heavy tanks, but they are few and far between, and I've NEVER gotten one in campaign mode no matter the difficulty settings and I've played into the hundreds of hours on this one...).

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I've checked mods already and nothing on that end... I'll pay for something if I have to, but there is still so much more to this game! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Just a "bump" of sorts, despite the CC1 forum being mostly devoid of life Rolling Eyes

cc1 and cc4 u cant choose ur units.

u can, i found, when u get some units u dont want, go'back' and often the 'new' teams change.

crossing the eure river(second when u fail) the germans get tempoary allocation of stugs/mauders/heavy inf/morters. americans get temp lend of stuarts, bar teams.

again at hill192.

i lasted out in sl lo 4/5/6 untill december 1945,with a jagdpanther and panther VG, and command team. those LONG shooting alleys meant no allied tank could come close. sherman 75,sherman 76, m39 jackson, stuart, sherman 105 all burned. hundrens smoked.

Yeah, I figured out the whole "Go Back" thing, but wasn't able to ever really get good options (You can go back hundreds of times at the different settings and just get similar crappy options - just try on "Off the beach, it'll always be a medium tank and a half track, or a small and medium tank, or just a medium tank, or some combination similar - same thing happens with the Germans - after the bridge second 1/2, you lose all your armor before the hedgerows, and the only armor I could get was the stug gun and sometimes a medium tank, but that requires replaying all the way to hedgerows in order to be low enough on manpower for that to show up with the AT guns.

Can't believe there hasnt' been a mod or trick to choose the equiptment in over a decade - sheesh Rolling Eyes

cc1 u have to do a few things:

1 load with the script for 'run' see faq here or cso

2 load the cc1a patch,at CCS and CSO,makes game faster loading, fixed some problems.

3 make win 95 compatable.

4 recruite settings allow more units, better trained, bigger tanks for americans, same for germans. eg. off the beach u get 2 shermans, and BAR teams, on elite/veteran, its a stuart or even M3 half truck, and rifle/recon teams.

I'm sorry I didn't understand your post...

I already have the game running, what is that I need to do in order to change "recruit" settings in CC1? I couldn't find any FAQ that mentions it. I'm probably just dense, but I am lost at the moment Rolling Eyes

I believe he meant "Recruit/Veteran/Hero" when choosing difficulty settings, which would be based on the later Close Combat difficulty settings.

In CC1, if I remember correctly, you can change to custom settings, which are more indepth.

You can choose from: Very Strong, Strong, Average, Weak, and Very Weak force strengths.

Matching Very Strong American forces vs. Very Weak German forces, and Vice Versa, can make for some very interesting games.

Until I realized what Custom Difficulty settings can do, I had never seen a Sherman 105 or too many M4A3s at once.

Doing this at St. Lo can result in some pretty interesting battles.
