Try cleaning / fixing your registry using a utility like CC Cleaner.

Ouch...then it must that nasty CC virus...I have it in my PC...the virus permanently installs 10 separate CC5 mods on my D drive Very Happy

Seriously...are you using WinXP or Vista?
Have you tried turning off System Restore?

I disagree...as long as you're not lazy with HDD defrag, registry maintenance, antivirus checks and updates, adware shield etc...XP installs can last years.

The main problem is an unlucky forced shut-down (power failure) of the PC while working on a resource intensive app...then you might have an unrepairable XP that needs reinstalling.

Oh, trying out too many freeware stuff will usually lead to corrupt registry also (if you do too much install-uninstall runs)...so just install reputable software...and of course the CC Series (and all the mods in separate folders) Wink

Try reinstalling CC5...then install the patch...then uninstall the game.

Click on Start\Settings\Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs\
is there a CC5 entry remaining?, if so, open the Windows Registry Editor and look in...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
Delete: Sub-key {66545400-DEF6-11D3-A09A-00E02919016C}
Delete: Sub-key CCV Patch 501
-----------------------------------------------------
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mattel Interactive\Close Combat\
Delete: Sub-key Close Combat
-----------------------------------------------------
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SSI\Close Combat Invasion Normandy\
Delete: Sub-key Close Combat Invasion Normandy
-----------------------------------------------------
Have you deleted your temp files?
X:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Temp\

Have you deleted your windows temp and prefetch files?
X:\WINDOWS\Temp\
X:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\

Restart Windows and open Task Manager by right clicking on the Task bar or by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Del.
End processes that are under your, user name only!. Do not end explorer.exe & taskmgr.exe
Retry the installation, I hope all goes well.

Hi Johnny.
The probleme may come from your Cfg manager.
Many time people deleting CCV while mod loaded.
And this is a problm.
I had this problm some years ago.
Check out your Cfg, maybe it still listing the mod loaded.
If yes, put your Cd in CCv and install it.
If it refuse ro install , it may still installed for your PC. So
Load the cfg manager and uninstall the mod then uninstall ccv.
But if u already unloaded any mod after your uninstall and your Cfg manager still unmoded.
U have to think and found about what mod was loaded when u uninstalled CCV.
So in this case, just install CCV ( put cd in and install) if the progrm dont want
to install as it say " already installed" just reload your mod who were loaded when u installed CCV.
once it's done, unload it and then u ll be ready to uninstall CCV.

Hi friend,

You cannot even imagine how I am happy to be on Win98! No viruses, no spys, very stable, etc.... And Win 98 has offered you both SDK and SOC, then SDK:DK and BH are coming.

Everything on Win98!

Why living as a lemming?

Cheers

I've got Win98 installed on one of the old PII PCs at work.
But at home, and laptops...I prefer WinXP.
TBSOD is very rare on XP...still happens a lot on Win98.
WinXP plugNPlay is also a lot better...plug anything to a WinXP USB...and it's instantly recoqnized. With Win98...you gotta find drivers for the thing...ouch!

I agree that Win98 is good enough...but Xp is a huge improvement (I also got tired of the Win98 look...haha). Vista on the other hand...a resource hog designed to boost new hardware sales Rolling Eyes

Oops we're moving to OOT territory Wink

Another idea. You need to go to the folder C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information. The folder is hidden so you need to change the settings into explorer to see hidden folders. There you should find some folders. To know which one you have to open Setup.ini. The one should show

    [Startup]
    AppName=Close Combat Invasion Normandy
    FreeDiskSpace=0
    EnableLangDlg=Y
    Engine=0
    Copy=1
    Source=0

    [ISUPDATE]
    UpdateURL=http://

    [Languages]
    Default=0x0009
    count=1
    key0=0x0009

Then delete this very folder.
The information about the installation should then be erased.
I hope that you get through

The correct folder is...

C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{66545400-DEF6-11D3-A09A-00E02919016C}

Just like in the registry. Wink
