Everytime I select one, it says can't see. Or is LOS really important in this game?

I'm talking about the GV 155mm here. Look like artillery support guys.

Also, some mortars show up as little trucks on the icons but they are actually 3 people. Is there some mistake on my part?

... not any what I know. Often you can click on the "info" about the weapon. However try to distance you from the target and get a clear LOS.

Yup, it's the LOS that makes them work.
