I am getting a new computer which comes with a trial of an operating system for 60 days.
I have a dell computer which I bought with XP. Can I transfer that XP to my new computer?
How do you guys get your copies of Windows? Do you use a licensed one?
David

trial for 60 days? sounds extremely suspect!
HP and Dell have a strange association with windows, they have XP on a all in 1 set up disk, similar to a laptop, and it has XP incorporated, BUT NOT TRANSFERABLE! when i sold my wife's HP i also effectlvely sold XP with it.
XP is cheap, new a OEM is $120AUD, this is the price on ebay usually. I only use licenced copies now.
whats the cost of the new PC,and almost no companies sell XP with new computers, Vista is 99% of new PC's, though Dell offers XP if u ask, and if u buy Vista Pro it comes with a XP reverse. basically it rolls back to XP, but it is expensive.

So now one have to pay for window$ after buying a computer. I thought micro$oft preferred the computers to be sold bundled with their OS so people have no other choice than using their OS, and then some of their software and services.
Seriously, get a linux distribution and stop this madness !

Sadly, CC isn't compatible with Linux Evil or Very Mad .
Which is why I still use Win98...

go to microsoft.com and check:
a) its a valid xP
b) cost of online subscription/validation.

Im very suspect of this 60 days, i put them together sometimes, i have 4 of my own, 1 vista,2 xp pc and laptop with xp. i go to computer stores regulary, and see pc in big stores, never ever heard of a trial period! once u install xp u have 30 days to validate or she starts shutting down. vista u have 7. read the fine print again, and phone the store asap.

Usually OS is bundled with a new PC and is permanent...the 60 days trial usually applies to the MS Office install included with most new PCs.

Are thay all internal drives? Remember what happened to the new Kharkov mod?!

Are you serious about Vista?

I have Vista 32 bit now on my uber PC,but im upgrading to Vista 64bit(faster) and donating old to my main PC.

yes vista issues are common, because people are computer stupid, and havent tried work arounds, or simple visiting FAQ forums, vista help FAQ or help forums...i have solved all issues, run CCV and all my newer stuff from S3T.

also in vista defence, SP1 is out,and working grand for me again...she is a memory HOG, under 2 gig and its like 256Megs for XP.i have 4 gigs(its maximum, little overkill for 32bit,now 64bit im going to 4*2 gig) i do HD recordings, uses LOTS of ram...
