After playing for around 35 minutes

The temperature crept up to 54 degrees c then settled down to 49 degrees c

Hardware monitor

Thanks for the test report, Shreck.
My 8600GT's temp shot up from 61-62 to 90-93 deg c playing WAR...that's pretty hot for a 2D engine.
Any ATI users?

I have one Nvidia 9600GT and I have not seen a strange temperature playing, it is over 50 and near 60 as on many other games. But I have seen one higher temperature on CPU, all the cores werer over 45º. You can think that it is not too strange but I have one Antec P182 computer case and one Schyte Ninja installed on my CPU. Normally they are not over 40º. But I have not problems with all this because the CPU max temperature is 70º.

Keep 'em coming, guys...
So far NVidia 7600GT and 8600GT are the ones affected.
It doesn't reboot my PC or anything like that...but 90-93 deg for a 2D engine is strange.

I have no problems with CPU temp.

I think that your graphics card has the fan full of dust and it can not ventilate well.
And I think that you are wrong if you think that one 2D engine is less powerfull, yes this game has low hardware requeriments but CCWAR load thousands of tga images, more than many other games. And TGA is not a compressed file.

But good as I told you, I do not see nothing strange on graphics card, 60º are well, 66º is the max on my 9600GT. I will try test it later on one old 7600GT that I have.

I have an XFX 8600GT...and I know this card has heat issues...but I've been using it for quite some time now without probs...my PC is well maintained and the fans are working okay.
The problem is WAR makes my 8600GT hot just like when running the latest 3D Games (I'm also playing bouts of the latest BiA, Crysis and CoD4).

I've tested playing CC4-CC5...and my XFX 8600GT temp only rises 1-2 deg from idle temp.
CC4-CC5 is the same game...it also loads thousands of tga images Smile
WAR made the temperature shot up 30 degrees from idle temp...that's not normal.

At the Matrix forum someone with a 7600GT has the same problem...so it might affect only certain VGA cards...unfortunately my 8600GT is one of them Sad
Could also be a problem with the drivers.

I will test it on my daughter's PC with a 7300GT.

I find normal that when you are playing GPU is a bit more hot. It is not normal. But it is not neccesary that the game be 3D.

Quote:

CC4-CC5 is not the same game because they have not the same ia proccess by example.

I recomend you upgrade to the last drivers, they are the 178.24.

That is the general rule, my friend.
When playing semi 3D games (but graphically intensive) like Blitzkrieg...the GPU temp doesn't rise as high as playing new heavy 3D games for example.

I am using the latest drivers...this new driver might actually be the problem.
I might try rolling back to a previous driver (but then I won't be able to play BiA Hell's Highway).

WAR is using the CC5 engine...the only difference/enhancement is compatibility with new OS and modern computers...and higher res support. Graphics, effects etc is exactly the same as CC5.

BTW, WAR is not causing heat problems for your GPU, Shreck's or Tack's.
So the problem might only affect certain cards...so far 8600GT and 7600GT.
WAR works fine on my Laptop (with a lowly ATI Radeon Express 200M)...but I can't take a temp reading of this GPU.

If it is the same, why the vehicle movement, the ai and many more things are different? yes, war has many from cc5 but it is not the same.

Sorry for the delay, N_Steiner...
I was at work Smile
Anyways...I have a non-wide 20" LCD...widescreens are more popular...but I prefer non-wide for wargaming Very Happy

I got Radeon x1950 and this bloody game COMPLETLY hangs my computer. It goes black and I have to restart... Thanx for this thread - now I know at least what is going on :/

This card is pretty good - I have finished Crysis and Fallout 3 so any game with engine from the year 2000 SHOULD work properly... I got temp over 93degrees and then computer hangs

To make things clear: fan on the card is clean.

Hmmm...from my notes...cards effected by heat issues so far:

NVidia 7600GT, 8600GT, 7900GT, 8600GTS...and now Radeon x1950

BTW, just curious...you guys with no GPU heat problems...is your graphics card using DDR3 or DDR2 Memory?
Those cards with WAR heat issues I listed above should by default come with GDDR3 Memory chips.

errrmm...

We're looking at this.

The only reports of high temps so far are 3

Radeon x1950... 93 deg

nvidia 8600GT....90-93 deg

nvidia 7600GT.... 103 deg

Okay, Shreck...hope you guys can nail the prob soon...I already sent Steve my dxdiag system dump.

The 7900 GT/GTO error at Matrix Forums isn't heat related?
What about Tack's G9900?
TJ's 8600GTS temp rising to low 70s from 57 deg idle is not normal...TJ reports playing CC5 with the GPU staying at 57 deg. WAR and CC5 should produce about the same load for GPUs, right?

Tried Shreck's tips at the Matrix Forum.
Quote:
...check that anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are turned off for WaR

Seems to help a bit...not that any of them was on before (in global settings)...but I created a setting for CCE.exe at the Nvidia CP and manually set them to application controlled (which should be off for WAR) and my 8600GT temp when playing WAR is about 80-85 (tested 2 battles at 15 mins). Still hot, but better than 90-93 like before.

When first playing WaR, I experienced some seriously delayed frame rates.
Reading through this thread, it is very probable that the problem is also linked to the heating up of the videocard.
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo. No idea how to measure/look up its running temperature, and no idea how to turn off anti-aliasing and stuff...

In the meantime, I had to revert to a basic solution: four Duplo-blocks from my son's toy box are now supporting my laptop and providing some fresh air to the ventilator... Laughing and it seems to help!

Hope a patch will address this issue soon,

Roel

temperature never went over 71c,average 67c, pre game temp 57c.

NO crashes,no 00:00 crashes, no map crashes...so far.

played to 3 games past second turn, day 2.

Have you checked that antialiasing and atntostropc filtering are off for WaR?

The "pattern" so far for the few systems with WAR GPU heat problems:
- AMDX2 (dual core) with select NVidia GPU (7600GT, 7900GT, 8600GT)
- Radeon x1950 (Intel or AMD proc?)

OK, we continued our H2H campaign yesterday, and I no longer seems to experience lag in the frame/scroll rates (we only played 2 15min battles though). So, for me the problem seems to be solved.

I tested with the following configuration:
* As per your guide, I checked (enabled) the AA/AF boxes. It was not clear whether WaR uses Direct3D or OpenGL, so I checked both. Also, I couldn't get your links to the ATI Catalyst drivers to work in the PDF, so I'm not sure which version I'm using.
* My laptop is still supported by Duplo blocks Smile to provide some extra cooling. If you like, I can test without to see if it makes any difference (testing will be on Thursday, when our H2H campaign continues).
* I upgraded to 2GB RAM (from 1GB) after the heating issue occurred; don't know if it had any impact
* I ran a performance optimizer (AWC)

Cheers,

Roel

I have checked the temp, while being on the main screen (actually the place you are choosing the side you wish to play) , having the temperature measurment program on the other monitor (I got two monitors attached to make my work easier). It was going up and up until 88degrees. Then I switched off the game.

Next I thought it might be a problem of two monitors. I thought I am right, until... the monitor went black, the card switched off... Temp too high...
But what is important, i was able to play twice that long... It is colder in my room or the second monitor affects...

My sys is not going that hot really, but just for the info as it is much higher than the orginal CC4:
AMD 64 3500+, GeForce 7800 GT
Idle 51C, WaR 86C max., WaR menu 73C
Same goes for WaR classic CC4
Original CC4 doesn't go above 60C
AA & AF set to off.

My 8600GT's temp is pretty close to idle temp when playing WAR with the beta patch...30 deg above idle temp without the patch.
Good job, guys! Looking forward to the official patch.
