The "pattern" so far for the few systems with WAR GPU heat problems:
- AMDX2 (dual core) with select NVidia GPU (7600GT, 7900GT, 8600GT)
- Radeon x1950 (Intel or AMD proc?)

Have you checked that antialiasing and atntostropc filtering are off for WaR?

OK, we continued our H2H campaign yesterday, and I no longer seems to experience lag in the frame/scroll rates (we only played 2 15min battles though). So, for me the problem seems to be solved.

I tested with the following configuration:
* As per your guide, I checked (enabled) the AA/AF boxes. It was not clear whether WaR uses Direct3D or OpenGL, so I checked both. Also, I couldn't get your links to the ATI Catalyst drivers to work in the PDF, so I'm not sure which version I'm using.
* My laptop is still supported by Duplo blocks Smile to provide some extra cooling. If you like, I can test without to see if it makes any difference (testing will be on Thursday, when our H2H campaign continues).
* I upgraded to 2GB RAM (from 1GB) after the heating issue occurred; don't know if it had any impact
* I ran a performance optimizer (AWC)

Cheers,

Roel

I have checked the temp, while being on the main screen (actually the place you are choosing the side you wish to play) , having the temperature measurment program on the other monitor (I got two monitors attached to make my work easier). It was going up and up until 88degrees. Then I switched off the game.

Next I thought it might be a problem of two monitors. I thought I am right, until... the monitor went black, the card switched off... Temp too high...
But what is important, i was able to play twice that long... It is colder in my room or the second monitor affects...

My sys is not going that hot really, but just for the info as it is much higher than the orginal CC4:
AMD 64 3500+, GeForce 7800 GT
Idle 51C, WaR 86C max., WaR menu 73C
Same goes for WaR classic CC4
Original CC4 doesn't go above 60C
AA & AF set to off.

Almost forgot about this thread...
My 8600GT's temp is pretty close to idle temp when playing WAR with the beta patch...30 deg above idle temp without the patch.
Good job, guys! Looking forward to the official patch.
