#1: CC IV & XP SP2 Author: wissooner, Posted: Sat Mar 26, 2005 3:51 pm I just reinstalled CC IV on a new machine with a OS of XP SP2. The game installed with no problems and will run, but the game is essentially unplayable. The scroll speed in supersonic no matter what the setting, also there is a 1 or 2 second lag in scrolling when the mouse is move to the edge of the map.
And the turn executes very slowly.
I've tried running the game in Win 95 or 98 mode, but I get 'Microsoft Error Report' box prompt on startup, so the game won't load.
Not sure what else to try.
I searched this forum for help, but unless I missed something, I didn't find any answers.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Also do you have the patch for CCIV? If not it can be found here at CCS,the patch may help you in getting the game to run under different OP like 95/98
Disabeling DirectDraw may help out too.

I found the 4.02 patch and have tried 3 times to download and apply it, but keep coming up with the same error messge, something like 'corrupt cabinet file'. I don't think I've ever seen this error message before.
Haven't tired disabling direct draw yet. If I can't get the patch to work, don't see the point.

I wasn't able to find the CC4 patch from the link you provided, but I did finally find the patch on another site. (it took awhile to find)
The game runs fine now. The scroll speed is still alittle too fast for my taste, but I can live with it. Adjusting the scroll speed in the game to slow doesn't help much.
I didn't disable direct draw. Turn execution is now good. Like I said, the only complaint now is scroll speed.
I'd forgotten how cool these games are. The hassle to get this game running was worth it. I wonder if I'm going to have the same problems with the other games of the series?
Anyway, thanks again.
