As the title obviously explains, this is a minimod for GJS about the so called "the Kursk of Normandy", the greatest tank battle on the western front.

In early July the british commaders were still faced with a stalemate. Having taken a high toll in the battle through the bocage, the street fighting in Caen and for Hill 112, the Commonwealth infantry had taken high casualties, which they had problem replacing, especially for the British forces.
But there was plenty of tanks to use, not to mention the high availability of replacement tanks.
Therefore, operation Goodwood was to be lead and executed by tanks, followed by the infantry.
The leading armoured spearhead would concist of 3 armoured divisions: the 11th, the 7th and the Guards Armoured Division.

The goal of ths opeation was to reach the Bourguebus Ridge and once there the armoured forces would tie down any german armor that would be there or would arrive in the area.

The attack would be precceded by an aerial bombardment and after that the armoured colum would have a creeping barrage infront of them to act as an "battering ram" or "shield".

Infront of the advance was the 16th Luftwaffe Field Division. This division had suffered a lot in the begining of July, and would suffer even more now( in fact it would cease to exist as an whole unit).

On the 16th's left flank was the 272 ID protecting southern Columbelles, while the 346 ID secured Touffreville on the right flank.
These 3 Inf divisions task were to act as an "screen" for the armoured forces behind them, which concisted of the battered 21st Panzer division, the 503:rd schweres panzer abteilung and some elements of the 12 SS.
Later during the battle the 1:st SS Pz.Div would arrive to counter the british attack.

The 11:th armour speeded through the enemy lines, and by midday 18th of July, the had reached Grentheville, just about 2 miles short of Bourguebus. But the rest of the tank divisions suffered badly: the "PaK front" of Cagny was an impossible task for the tanks to secure, and the assault came to an almost halt.

Alswere, forces of the 1st SS's recon unit began to arrive and put preasure on the left flank and arriving south of Bourguebus was the Panther tanks and StuGs of the 1st SS.

This counterattack forced the lead elements of the 11th to retreat, signaling the turning point in this operation.

Operation Goodwood was quickly coming apart.

The british offensive came short of it's main objective: to take the Bourguebus ridge.
But can you succede where they failed, and take that ridge?
Or will you throw in all available forces to stop the avalanch of allied armour heading your way?

The choise is yours, in OPERATION GOODWOOD.

Pretty good comercial/background here, eh? Wink

Then my friend, you should play the Cagny map. The british lost about 3 squadons of tanks there, if not more.
And after that you should play the Borgebous ridge map. Facing a horde of advancing shermans with a SS pather abteilung Wink
