Allegedly two tanks were included in operation Varsity

Hey zon,

The Locust was indeed a tank used by the airborne's. But there is no record of airbone's being involved in the Blockbuster Operation. The operation Blockbuster and operation Veritable where  operations with the goal of clearing the western bank of the Rhine River. Operation Varsity was part of the large scale Rhine Crossing operations.

So no there won't be locusts in this mod

Cheers Buck

Thanks for the clarification. I don't recall asking for a Locust though!

@Zon:
It was the last thing i read in your qoute zon so i kind of presumed you where talking about it

@PapaWhisky:
Hmm that might just be so... I'm not familiar with that operation. I only know it was a second airborne attempt to cross the Rhine. But this operation is defenitly out of our scope ;)

Cheers Buck

No worries. Just a side effect of collapsed quotes. Good luck with the mod.

We will probably create this mod for LSA but we are still a long way. We still have to start on the maps. Ortona has to be finished first.

That's explains why they had the weaker troops defend the east side of berlin.. all the elite troops were defending the west side i guess..

Sounds interesting! Hopefully Germans can utilize snipers to maximum effectiveness.

I have to echo Pzt. Kami on this one... Seeing as that this mod still seems to be in the brainstorming phase (my words, not quoting anyone here), I would agree that perhaps this mod would be better for the LSA engine.

Although not having played much of LSA myself, my reasons are as follows:

1. Merging of battlegroups. It seems to me that since this is a Mod depicting the fall of the Reich in the West, battlegroup merging would come into play towards the end of the battle(s). Although this might not have historically happened with the forces included, it might be an idea to try out.

2. Demolition of bridges. Having read Buck's post from above, I gather that there will be some inclusion of bridge blowing. Maybe the mod will take place after this happens. Maybe it would drastically change the mod, so much so that it would have to be left out. But I believe the option, just like battlegroup merging, should be at least a viable option, one left out of WAR and TLD.

3. What if there is another CC released following LSA. I'm sure there are people on here (Shrecken, TDZblabla) that could possibly give me a yes or no right off the bat, but if it is, I'm sure it would be set up in the manner of LSA. With the patch that recently came out, linking WAR and LSA, this could possibly happen in the future... LSA & for our sake... lets just say Invasion of Italy. This would, ofcourse, allow a quick port over to the new version.

4. Lastly, using the latest version seems to be the best bet (from a players point of view). Although there are some that will probably say the "newest version" is too buggy, changed, or new to be modded, but thats what people have always said about CCV/WAR & TLD. I want a good reason to get LSA, mods like this would probably be the deciding factor.

---------

I'm sure there are some reasons (good and bad) that I have left out that might swing your opinion, but these are just some things that came to mind having read this thread.

3 years is a long ways away, but I think that should be more than reason enough to release this for LSA.

Looking forward to this. It will be another reason to pick up CC again, some time in the future (for the gazillionth time). The replay value of CC is amazing, thanks to the great mods.

Unless something better is in the pipeline we will be using LSA because it has obvious advantages when it comes to modding. Furthermore, I think the mod stratmap will benefit from the LSA stratmap size. The mod stratmap will probably stretch from the area of the Reichswald in the north to somewhere around Jülich in the south.
Personally I like the opportunities that the formation system offers, although I also believe that the small company sized battle groups are too small for LSA sized maps. If I have my way the Rhineland maps will be smaller.

I have to agree with you Pete, those maps look huge! I am a big fan of CCII and CCIV sized maps. Although playing on the huge maps was fun for a bit in CCMT, they really only seemed to work with more than 1 member per team, which brought along its own problems.

Cut down maps seem to lend more to the whole Tactical / Strategic Map pairing. Usually I prefer smaller maps as they are more action packed and "dense" with combat.

Exceptions: Bastogne, new son maps for Hell's Highway mod, Caen, and perhaps certain CCMT monstrocities.

I am glad that this mod seems to be heading (or already headed) towards LSA.

Great News GUYS!!!

Maybe we can have some type of return to the CC1 style maps...

straight foward attack down a road, with few strategic options (no exits north or south... at least on the beginning edge) for deviaton from this path. Vic locations set up as phase lines, with a good attack down the road netting 2 or 3 phase lines, and a bad one kicking you off the map or keeping you pinned against that part of the screen. Maybe somewhere about 3/4 of the way down you could have a northern and southern exit, but stilll only accessible after a long grind down the road. Make the adjacent maps north and south in the same manner so either way you have to make serious forward progress before you could sidestep your enemies battle group. Maybe good for a mountain pass scenario, but i could imagine it would be something to consider with river crossings and the like... having only one set route to find a crossing.
