hmmmm... tricky

IMHO War is the most stable and best gameplay of the Strat level games at present. (if you like lots of snow maps)

LSA has the most features and will become the pre-emminent version of CC once a few gameplay issues are resloved.

tLD has more features than WaR (night battles, windowed mode etc) but is not entirely stable

CoI is very stable and has the most mods and features such as MMCC3

After the last beta patches to WAR & TLD I would say they are on par with each other for stability. WAR now has windowed mode and most of the features of TLD (though some need to be setup/turned on through editing the campaign.txt). The other comments I agree with....

Additional comment for COI; it does not have a strat layer and you can not change history but it does let you play/upgrade guns/vehicles over the course of years on the Eastern Front.

sorry tejszd

With the beta patch the GC for WaR is unplayable due to corrupt map files.... so I'll reserve judgement.

I have not seen any feedback for the tLD Beta patch as yet... eg GC play for a few turns at least.

I thought it was only 1 map corrupted in the WAR GC? I have one going with Dampsquib so we will report any issues.

To Curt's question.....

I'd go with COI first. I think it offers the most "bang" for your buck. While it doesn't have a strat level, MMCC3 is a good stand in and it's fun to watch the whole front change with multiple people playing. And MMCC3 has 3 unique GCs going right now.

I have LSA now and while it is a good game, some of the issues in it will drive you up the wall, so it might be best to wait for till first patch.

After COI, it depends on whether you like snow or beaches more between TLD and WAR  Laughing

Massive Multiplayer Close Combat 3 - It's a strategic level that a large number of people can player simultaneously all along the front lines. Mooxe has a post on the front page about the Bloody Omaha beta mod. There are 3 different mod servers running. COI GC, Operation Mars, and Bloody Omaha. You get to build one BG and drive it across the entire front against either the AI or a friend.

So 6 people could be playing each other on different maps and after the games the front line will adjust depending on the results. It's a 24/7 live war to fight  Very Happy

If you want to play single player, try out Sean O'Connor's Firefight.

I've been trying to decide this for a bit myself.

A long time CC fan, CC2 was probably my favorite of the original series.    I just finished playing through The Longest Day and it was OK.   Crashed a few times and a couple of the maps seemed like they hadn't been converted or something (stretched and blurry).   Did like the window mode though.  AI didn't feel vastly different.

If money wasn't an issue I would of course pick it up....but thinking I might install the original CC2 and wait for a price drop....don't think Matrix ever have any sales do they?

Yeah you've just missed the LSA launch sale where the other CC marques were reduced

LSA has a few bugs to iron out, but the nature of the operation itself, coupled with the additions introduced, make it the best to date in my book.

Buying anything annoys me.

COI is the only rerelease I can enjoy because of MMCC3.

My advice to you CptCurt is to review the Matrix forums. Many mixed reviews. Some people love it, some are on the fence, some hate it. LSA seems to have the most bugs to date. WAR has a horridly desgined stratmap, too many confusing road connections missing. TLD stratmap is too narrow, in some places on two maps deep.

Tactically all the games are still pretty much identical. Most changes are on the strategic side.
