#1: Getting back into the Close Combat series Author: loganov, Posted: Mon Aug 09, 2010 4:54 pm Hello everyone,
Little intro first:
I've played Close Combat since 1996. I played every title from the original to Close Combat: Marines. My original discs were long ago damaged, broken, or lost. I was playing CC3 (RR & WF mods, mainly) on my old PC as recently as 2007 before it died. I have since gotten a new computer, but the urge to play CC still hasn't gone away.
So, I want to get back into playing CC, but I don't know which to get. Should I buy the original CC3 and mod it? Should I buy Cross of Iron and mod it?
I guess my main questions/concerns are:
Does CC3 work on a 64-bit Vista environment?
Does CoI work on a 64-bit Vista environment?
How active are the CC3/CoI communities relative to each other?
Do CC3 mods work on CoI? If not, is there a good Real Red equivalent?
Does CoI have the same feel as the old CC3?
Are there good CoI modding tools? Can I easily customize my unit upgrade paths, etc, like I could with the CC3 modding tools?
How good is Matrix Games' support for CoI?
Is there anything else I should know before dropping $40-50 on one of the games? Are there any CCS discounts or promotions on the CC series on Matrix Games site? Any way I can save a few bucks?
Thanks in advance!
Logan

COI is like CC3 but with more campaigns and maps. For me, it is a much better game.
