Every now and then I get the bug to play CC any flavor, so I pop online for a few days post a forum note, go to bhq, and a few days go by and I dont find anyone and I eventually dissappear for several months or a year since I am not able to get an opponent whenever I find time.

I seem to catch regular posts that people are still playing, so I know YOU are still out there.

I use BHQ, I popped in now and then but almost always ther is nobody, or 2 ppl are already playing. so I leave client on for hours and nobody shows up.  I read that BHQ is pretty much dead and nobody uses it tonight.  Which is strange since its the link that now comes with the lastest Matrix versions.

I just read about Hamchi, but never heard of it before so I tried to check it out, but it appears one must know which colient to use.  Managed, Unmanaged?  I find no simple instructions on how to try to get online so not sure what to do get get hooked up with it.  Does it provide a lobby?  I read about weekend game finders or somethign like that.  Also its the only recommended one now.

I miss the days of the "internet gaming zone" or just "the zone" when Microsoft release CC1, you could find an opponent 24/7 in about 5 minutes.

I've been checking those three locations for games the last fews days. No luck. It would be nice if there was a single location that is the place to go. I think the H2H field might be so fractured people don't know where to go and end up just giving up when the software they choose isn't finding them any people. I'm surprised Matrix hasn't filled this gap for all their games. Pushing Battle HQ doesn't count. An easy, browser-based meet-up place like the gaming zone would be great.

Part of the problem is Instant Messaging.... Many people just use Messenger to chat and start a game with a small group of people they know....

Multiplayer requires patience. Most people play Grand Campaigns now. If you want a Grand Campaign partner, you need to be present in Hamachi quite often. I won't ask anyone new in Hamachi to start a GC with because 9 out of 10 times that person won't stay around to finish even the first day. This goes for any of the other venues as well. People that I see around lots I would ask.

Hamachi is the place CCS pushes to everyone to visit and its working.

Scott Kevill's (GameRanger Owner) idea is to have GameRanger bundled with titles from Matrix Games. It benefits both sides, and us.

Gameranger.com supports all CC games except WaR, TLD, LSA. I have over 70 CC players on my friends list from GR. When I am logged on I see 2-8 friends online normally. When I am looking for a game I host a room. I may have to wait hours before I get a game. Other times I find several games with ease, it just depends.  More people play CCV and newer versions, but I still prefer CC3 or COI for online play with the benefits of the scenario editor and Ops or Single Battles.

popped onto hamachi.  saw several usernames.  said 5 online.  What then?  do I have to msg everyone with chat requests?  How do I know whos already playing or who is really online or who just has their connection open and not really sitting there?  Played around with hosting, but it defaults to my local ip, not the vpn ip.  tried a few pings and cant reach anyone's ip.  Would help if there were more instructions to get connected.  Helps to know that unless im on all the time I will get ignored :)

I'd play more often If I knew I could get oppenents. I spend more time trying to find someone that actually playing.

Message the entire channel and see whos available. There is no way to tell if people are in game. Whether or not they are sitting at their PC, you will never know! Use the ping function included with Hamachi, right click the name and ping. If you do it that way and get no ping response you probably can't use the VPN function to get a connection. That's ok, I can't ping anyone anymore either, something to do with Windows 7 that I havent resolved yet. Lately I am just using Hamachi as the place to meet people to play, and it works great that way. I find myself going to GameRanger.com to get the game connected vice doing it manually.

Stick around, idle for awhile, let people see you are around. Most people will not choose to start a lengthy GC or Op with someone they do not recognize.
