Matrix Games, Slitherine (www.slitherine.com) and Black Hand Studios are thrilled to announce that they are nearing completion of a new relaunch of the Close Combat series, representing countless hours of hard work from the developers and based on community feedback to greatly improve unit pathfinding, friendly and enemy artificial intelligence and more! These new “2.0” releases address some of the most significant issues that have been on the wishlists of Close Combat fans since the original games were released.

In addition to relaunching the Close Combat line with these improvements, everything that’s new will be available at no cost to customers who already own the Matrix Games Close Combat releases in the form of free mega-updates, which have been tested and hailed by many gamers in the community over the past few months.

These new versions mark a fantastic overall improvement to the gameplay of the Close Combat games and show the astonishing distance the series has come since its original form many years ago. Relaunch and Mega Update Improvements (CC: Cross of Iron, CC: Wacht am Rhein, CC: The Longest Day)

Major improvements were made to the way vehicles and soldiers travel to way points and reach the end destination of both simple and highly complex, unhindered paths with a very high degree of success.
Soldier pathfinding was improved so that when soldiers fall behind (heavy weapon or momentarily lost) they plot their own path to successfully rejoin their team.
Vehicle driver and soldier decision making was improved to help them deal with unexpected obstacles (vehicle moving into their way , or wreck that was knocked out in the course of battle to block a path that was already determined), and get out of dead-end locations.
AI improvements were designed in concert with the re-designed pathfinder.
The "Bee Dance" of CC2 that was related to conflicts between the AI for the vehicle driver and the AI that tried to keep the team moving along the team's path that would result in a conflict about which portion of the AI to follow or "which way to go” is resolved.
Many other minor improvements were made and reported bugs were fixed.

release 1 was a fail so it has been re-released with some bug fixes - my best guess.

I guess this is some marketing ploy.

But the reality of it is, they are releasing a new patch.

So the next phase is for us all to play the relaunch of the rerelease.

The ultimate reality for me is.... Matrix Games is trolling us and Tack (supposedly anti flame bait??) is first to post it here!

Looks like this is just an Official patch.
Pretty much just all the members Only beta patch's all rolled into one for anyone to download.

I had my hopes up for more.

And what's to keep anyone from using 5CC to find Hoffa's Body and claim the prize?

My personal observation is that matrix is in such a mess with all the beta patches now that they are doing a full release download so that they can get the game back to a "Known" state rather than 157 bits cobbled together.

Oh I get it now. All the members club patches that have been in beta status for the past years are now going to be official. I guess if you have the members club patches installed, you've already experienced the great hurrah that this is supposed to be.

It will be great to "lock in" the final patches as a proper release. All the BETA patches were too confusing. Better late than never I guess Confused

Looks like Matrix is trying to sucker in some more people into buying one of their games and making a big deal about fixing things that shouldn't have been f#%$ed up in the first place.

Look for the re-release of Atari Pong for only $59.95 with Mega Updates to Include:
- Improved Paddle/Ball Pathfinding - Paddle actually moves in direction where you told it too instead of in the opposite direction!
- Redesigned Game/Scoring - Game now records the points you scored instead of giving them to your opponent!
- New Features - Try and find mini Elvis somewhere hidden in the background!

Dont worry, if you already bought the Pong Rerelease you will be given these updates for FREE!

Looks like the new downloadable versions will come with all the patches installed, "These new “2.0” versions of Close Combat are expected to be available for sale on June 15th." Hopefully we can who paid for the 1.0 can download these 2.0's.

Yeah, those that paid for the originals can download the 2.0 version. I assume it'll be a whole new game download rather than another patch. The rereleases are now being advertised at the slitherine website so I assume it won't be long before they're available at the matrix site too.

edit: just as I finishing writing the above the new versions became available. someone start a GC with me!

Just downloaded the patch for LSA from the Matrix Games members section and installed it. There is definitely an improvement noticeable. For example: I ordered a tank to move fast to a dirt road on the top right of a field. The tank is at the bottom of the field on a paved road. The field is bordered by paved road on 2 sides and on 1 side by the dirt road. The tank moves first along the paved road (turns left, turns right, turns right to the dirt road and drives straight to its destination. It moved straight along the roads and it just missed the exact turn into the dirt road by a few meters.
On the other hand though: when ordering to move fast in a straight line across 'dirt' to a position on a paved road it took the long road across paved road - at least 3 times longer than the shortcut across the dirt field.
Still, so far I am happy with this improvement.

Looking at the forums for each version I see the new updates have generated...........

1 post for tLD
2 for WAR and
10 for LSA

No sense in me trying a new GC as my game was already updated to the current version (same as the new patch version) through the members only updates.
So nothing new to me and probably not to anyone else who visits here as I'm sure we all downloaded the updates as they came out.
