Good job on this Brake.   War of the Century is my favorite.  Commanders at War series is very good for a television series - really got into the specific details of strategies.

I am interested in view the Russian documentary Dima told you about.  Also wondering if the Germans or Japanese produced much?

7. Turning the Tide
8. The Soviet Steamroller

10. Closing the Ring
11. The Island War
12. Victory in Europe
13. Victory in The Pacific

rare and unseen footage from the air/land/sea including pretty much every main battle and it looks at it from every sides angle. (mainly brit, usa, nazi, iti, red, jap but does also mention a little bit on other countries involved)

link here: http://www.yourdiscovery.com/web/world-war-2/ww2-in-colour-hd/

i must say watching the beautiful monastery at cassino get bombed was quite something.
i also was surprised to learn that at the time of the normandy landing, hitler was sleeping and wasnt to be disturbed so he didnt find out for some hours after but he wasnt too alarmed and didnt think much of it at all.

In Holland a new documentary is being released in a few weeks, "A heath too far" (Een hei te ver), about Dropzone Y (Ginkel Heath) during Market Garden, and why this drpp was doomed from the start (even before).
Looking forward to a broadcast on national television.

A translation thru Google:

A heath too far
Every year in September, on the Ginkel Heath in Ede, the spectacular commemoration of Operation Market-Garden in September 1944. But why here? And what has been written in that day in September is actually played.

The documentary "A heath too far" tells the story of the first day of Operation Market-Garden. Ginkel Heath was the landing area for the 4th Parachute Brigade on September 18, 1944 or the second day of operation, landed. The moor was on the 17th and September 18th will be defended against German counterattacks. That task was a battalion Scots, the 7th KOSB themselves with gliders on September 17 had landed near Wolfheze. Soon after the Scots had their positions taken on the moor, the German counterattacks. These were executed with varying success by a Dutch battalion of SS men from Amersfoort. If known, for the first time the story of the Dutch SS battalion told using original archive materials.

At the time of the landings on the 18th was an important part of heather, around the current restaurant Tok 'Auntie' in the hands of the Germans. The first task of the paratroopers was also opposition to the clean up.

Then after they left the English first spot had come up a new plan to advance to Arnhem. On September 19th the march was stuck in the woods around the Johannahoeve. It was already clear that the operation encountered many difficulties. With many Meit enabled the Scots and the English managed to the landing of the gliders of the Polish brigade in the Johannahoeve to succeed. The march finally ended around Hartenstein in Oosterbeek. It has never been in Arnhem.

The documentary is based on several books and records that are otherwise a diverse and sometimes contradictory picture. We used images of original while some parts are re-enacted, both in the surrounding areas, as well as the Ginkel Heath in England. The story is largely told by veterans and eyewitnesses.

A major advantage is that the current sites are largely still hove exactly like a small 70 years ago. Various buildings have hardly changed. The boards Wambuis, Aunt Tok and Long Mountain, Table Mountain, The Johannahoeve and the `White House 'in Oosterbeek, after seeing the movie first and foremost historical sites. This certainly applies to the fold on the Ginkel in the first hours of the landings served as an emergency hospital.

A (not so spectacular) trailer:

I am in the process of writing an article about "a Europe-wide Day of Remembrance for the victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes" with the special emphasis on the date (23 August) that I consider to be a malicious implication by those [countries] directly responsible for not stopping Hitler during several years when they had a chance to do it...

Recently I bumped into some Russian documentary on that topic, with a few declassified diplomatic and/or ministry of interior documents that would be very helpful. The problem is that I missed the first half of the film, and teletext (of course) wasn't working that very moment.

It was aired on Viasat History and I think that it's title had something to do with "Stalin stopping Hitler". Can anyone help? The exact name would be of great help, not to mention some torrent or streaming site  Very Happy

Just scored the WWII Essential Collection documentary series from Borders liquidation sale.  List price is $150...I paid only $64.
It has complete DVD set for World at War, Victory at Sea and Century of Warfare.

You can really get some bargains still at Borders but they are down to the last of inventories.
