I have Brest Fortress & it is pretty good. 9th Company was not. The Beast, I believe it is not Russian made , worth watching @ Afghan-Russian war. I try to get as many Eastern Front movies as possible and am always looking for recommendations esp Russian & German made. I thought Stalingrad was awful.

THE UNKNOWN WAR is an excellent TV Series from 1978 that Burt Lancaster narrates and is great to see him in 1978 USSR introducing the show. I got it in a hard drive swap for music and it came back w/all 20 episodes in a folder. The guy I traded with knew I was a WWII history buff. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0483223/

Until a recent hard drive crash I had a film about German vs Russian/ ?Yugoslavian? partisans that was raved about as rare and made in early 50's?  The movie had a couple recognizablely named American actors in it- though they did not speak English. I don't recall the name.
Does anyone know what I am speaking about and can name the movie?

Edit for SAPA - it took me a very long time to find the movie WINTER WAR. I found out about that movie from your mods!

Yes thanks!  I had hoped the tanks would be more historically correct in that one.

That is definitely the movie.  It was confusing for me b/c I know very little about the Balkans and WW II.
I had difficulty trying to figure out what the goal was in the movie. Chetniks and Tito's partisans , the German Army, Italian Army and everything jumbled up.

That wikipedia article was a big help in sorting that out. I couldn't figure out what the Allies were trying to do there. Apparently that is yhe point- the Allies were trying to figure out what do do there as well! I also didn't know Tito had a strongly voiced policy not to leave the wounded behind. Explains the motives in the movie better in my memory.
