Today at another forum that I am member of, someone shared this article called Counter Mortar Operational Research in 21 Army Group. It's an interesting read to learn a little more about those "overpowered" guns.

http://www.wlu.ca/lcmsds/cmh/back%20issues/CMH/volume%203/issue%202/Copp%20-%20Counter%20Mortar%20Operational%20Research%20in%2021%20Army%20Group.pdf

Also, the main site where that article is hosted has a lot of interesting stuff about the Canadian Army in WWII and in general: http://www.canadianmilitaryhistory.ca/archived-articles/

Yes, and most of Sherman casualties were by 88 fire (c) allied tankers.

Well, maybe you could provide the correction to those factological mistakes, quoting sources of course.

i'd of course if Mr.Copp quotes a source where he took his numbers of mortars per the German ID in Normandy from or a regiment of NbW per division or 70% casualties caused by the german mortars and NbW.

or how a wound caused by a splinter of exploded 75mm shell is different to a wound caused by a splinter of exploded 81mm bomb? or hand grenade vs 81mm bomb, etc.

Anyway the M.M.Swann work which T.Copp quotes in his article states that at least 30% of casualties were inflicted by small arms and other by all types of high explosive ordnance with no breakdown by types.
Does it look the same as 70% of casualties were inflicted by mortars and nbw?

And yes, in all the CC releases and most of mods the mortars are overpowered as until airburst bombs came in use it was needed many tens to hundreds of mortar bombs to knock out ATG for example. The main advantage of mortar is that it was a cheap weapon and could be used in mass even on lower command level but it could never substitute real artillery in terms of accuracy and firepower.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
