I could put up links to a dozen sites to commemorate today...

But the truth is you wouldn't be reading this if not for the sacrifice of a generation nearly gone through the attrition of time.

The free world held its breathe and said its prayers 75 years ago today.

Thankfully they triumphed through belief and bravery.  Europe and indeed the world would never be the same again..

Bless em all

Well said.  Not much time left last of the veterans less than 10% still alive.  One just did the parachute drop again today at age 97.  As far as the other Rommel post, hard to say theoretical if panzers deployed near landing zones would have made a difference.   Close support from destroyers were crucial to securing landing zones and to wear down German positions.  Not even a year later the war was over.  Rommel I'm sure was well aware if they could not stop them on the beach... the war was lost.  Hard enough to stop the Russians yet alone the Royal Navy & Yankee invasion.

Here is an interesting run down on the sherman DD tank.

There are still many on the bottom outside of the Normandy beaches where they sank. Unable to handle the rough conditions on the day

Amazing photos thanks for posting.  Surprised to see Ju-88 wreckage photo.  Did not think the Germans would send Ju-88's into Normandy region with overwhelming air superiority of Allied Forces.

Just before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJXUHQmoMqc
BTW, in that times pro-Nazi`s French formations, like Walloon Waffen-SS Legion, was at least 5000 strength, while whole 'La Resistance' estimates around 10 000 at same time...

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
