Hi guys;
I saw the trailer. It was so disappointing.I know there's freedom in choosing a subject for a movie in holywood and I respect it so mutch ,However ,making such a movie at the current time is quite wrong move Mad

yes kami!

you see you as iranian ( aka persia) and me as greek ( aka spartan, although I originally come from greek-makedonia Smile ) are concerned about the message of the movie...

i mean its no problem picturing historical battles in movies, but rewiriting history by saying " well we based this movie on a comic" and making the persians look like
animals instead of the high culture they were at the time makes it propaganda.

the battle is crucial for world history and important to the development of the so called west.
but this should not allow us to make up things and trying to make the persian look like barbarians (in the modern meaning).

ps. for the ancient greeks the persian were barbarians, but that expression only meant that they didnt know greek, thus speaking only ba ba ba
Greeks knew good enough that Persia was highly developed, since culture came from mesopotania in the first place and being beaten often enough they never underestimated them. Herodot and later Alexander recogniced that fact.

ps.2. troy and the alexander movie were also crappy history blockbusters with only little sence sticking to the Illias and the chronists... Ok look worst point in Troy was the exclusion of the gods fighting on both sides and Menelaos dying - in the homeric version he takes helena back -as the Hollywood version wants us to think.

I allways wonder when they will stop mixing fiction with scientificaly proven records with each other and especially the US stoping instrumentalizing movies like rambo or now the 300 for political means...joking around with other nations history only cause theirs offers not enough material.

To say it straight:
although proud greek that movie will be just reassuring propaganda crap with S/FX and that pisses me off. Still i will watch it once to observe the superficial historical knowledge on the producers.

Edit.

Of course, that post was in the wrong thread. Smile

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
