Is there anyway to edit soldier names within the game? I know that you can open up the soldiername file and just throw in a bunch of names but what I want to do is start up a campaign and choose one company (or bde or whatever level it is) and edit the individual teams and throw in names of my friends or people who would happen to read the AAR I'm planning on writing (it's more interesting to read if you can follow your own namesakes progress right?) Is this possible? Or is it just wishful thinking?

Try opening up the save game file with a hex editor.

u dont need a hex editor.
inside ur base folder of CC5 is names txt
there just a std text sheet
named RUnames.txt for russian names, usnames for us ect.
at the top of the text list is a number.
the following amount of names must equal the number.

Lord4war, I do belive he's speaking about changing the names of soldiers in an already started saved game, not the base list of names that the games picks from when it starts a battle.

said he wants to start up a campaign.
will be easier/less messier to do beforehand.
no special tools needed.

Oh well, either way, I desided to try it out my self. Started a battle and then edited a ton of the names.

Its for stock CC5.

unzip the file then paste it in games/saved

I cant get it to work for CCReq, it tells me it's for operations only. What program did you use Nembo? How do you do it?

Editing the team names for CCIV & CCV can be easily done by opening the file located in the Data/Base folder.
No program is needed as Notepad will open it.

All you need to do is just be sure that if you add/delete any names that the number at the top matches the amount of names you have.

No, again that doesn't help me. I don't want to throw in some random names into the team names list. I want to start up a campaign, save it and then choose a certain company from my saved game and change all of the names of the soldiers in that company. I'm only interested in following the progress of one company throughout the entire campaign not some soldiers randomly sprinkled across the entire map. I want to name my Bren group Bob, Dave and Charlie.
Nembo was able to do it but it appears that he has gone MIA Sad

Hmm ok this doesnt look as easy as what I was hoping. I guess what I have to do is start a campaign, choose a group to edit, look at their names and then search for their names in the hex editor and replace those names with the names I want. Is that it?

One thing I noticed is that when I create a new campaign and save it and then open it up in the hex editor, there are no names. Am I going to have to actually go through a battle with them first, and then save the game and then edit it?

Ok I got it figured out now. All it took was to play one battle and save and all the names of all the troops on the map are there. One final question. Can I have spaces in a name? Or does it have to be unbroken? And how long can a name be? For example will the nick "Skull Buster" be ok to put in?

no its not CCReq. You need a hexeditor.

Heres the one I use.
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm

Then open your save game, and just keep on scrolling down, till you start seeing names. First come the allied names I think then the German. Just make sure you dont hit backspace as that will mess everything.

Yes spaces should be fine, the total length I think is like 20 letters but even shorter if you want it to fit in the little black box.
