Began playing SDK this week and am enjoying it. I like the enarlged squad sizes but it seems that the BGs are smaller than in the Stalingrad mod.
Is there any reason for that. I can't see some of my BGs making it to the third week of the campaign!
Onto my question, concerning squads I'm unfamiliar with until now.
Firstly the German forward observers. The first time I used them they started signalling artillery in and destroyed several Soviet positions. I then looked at their ammo and saw '480' rounds. I thought I would be able to conquer the world. But then they stopped firing and refused to initiate any more shelling for the rest of the battle.
Are there any hard and fast rules governing the use of forward observers? Or just handy tips? Do they have to have a clear line of sight, do they have to be out in the open etc?
Once I used them and as they refused to call in artillery (seeking cover) and then the leader couldn't see I ran them to closer to the front line but when I tried the fire command the orange support firing line had been replcaed by the green direct firing line and they started banging away with mausers!
Onto rocket launchers, and I presume these will be played similarly to the Katyusha HTs. I fired them and they caused a lot of damage but then took about 6 minutes to reload.
What are the rules governing these.
If there are any manuals explaining these new weapons then please direct me to them, and I apologise for troubling with you with these questions, but I'd be grateful for some answers, especially from pzjager.
Yeah that's definitely one of the reasons I have since discovered from playing a few games. Otherwise they would be too dominant as weapons I guess.
But I am still curious as to why the forward observers' line of fire changed from the orange indirect artillery fire to the green direct small arms fire....maybe it was because they were pushed forward and in direct sight of enemy infantry.
I saw a post somewhere that if you fire your Kats very early in the battle they will have time to reload... that is why the post said to set battle time
to 15 minutes so the Russian AI will fire the Kats quickly and have time to
reload before time ends.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
