The situation appears bleak all along the front. Our men are running low on ammo, food, and fuel. We have been ordered to hold until the spring when a counter-attack can be launched and the initiative regained, but our dwindling forces are in the cold, freezing and starving in their foxholes. The enemy appears prepared to launch a huge offensive all along the front with the aim to exterminate every living thing inside this cursed pocket. We have no option to fight on though as we all have heard what the Russians do to prisoners and we all would rather fight to the death then be taken prisoner. I fear the outcome either way. I must go now, as I hear the guns in the distance.... It has begun...

Day 1 A.M.

Marinovka

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

The Russian attack has begun with an small incursion into the town of Marinovka probing the defenses of our 3rd division in the vicinity. The Russian forces moved south into the town testing our defenses. The main objective appeared the be the towns post office where a firefight quickly erupted.

However in the chaos a pak 38 we had positioned in the southern section of town managed to find its mark on an enemy T-34. The tank shortly bursts into flames. However, the guns position is revealed and quickly falls victim to the enemy.

At the end of the fight, losses were kept to a minimum and we still control about 80% of the town.

The pictures will have to be small for now until I can figure out how to make them larger. Until then, better then nothing! If anybody can enlighten me how to do this, please send me a message letting me know how.

Day 1 AM

Dimitrievka

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

The defense was concentrated in the town and prepared defensive trenches and bunkers.

This section of the front was very quiet this morning. The men were able to enjoy a hardy breakfast. The unit had sent a sniper out beyond the defensive lines who ran into an enemy patrol. Sergant Dresbach managed to pick off 6 enemy troops and return to the line. He has received a medal for his bravery.

There were no casulties to report in this sector however a Russian patrol wandered too close to our lines and met their end from a hunter by the name of Dresbach!

Day 1 AM

Karpovka

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

Defenses were concentrated along the riverbed and the southwestern section of town to prevent the soviets from crossing the river or expanding any further west into the town.

Our superiority in armor allowed us to keep the soviets from pushing any further west or across the river, however they managed to advance through the town to the bridge. They also managed to take the hill overlooking the northern section of town. Casulties were kept to a minimum and we made the soviets pay for their small gain.

Day 1 AM

Kasatschiy Kurgan

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

The defense was centered in the town in the south where most cover would be provided. A couple scout units were placed out in front of the line to screen for an enemy advance.

Once again an enemy patrol wandered to close to the lines and found themselves staring down the barrels of one of our panzers. Russian artillery knocked out our flak gun but other then that all was quite. However, I can not be so sure everything will remain quite in this sector as I hear the rumble of tanks in the distance...

Day 1 A.M.

Voroschilov

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

Thankfully we had plenty of armor to deploy in this particular sector. We placed them behind buildings to gain the advantage of surprise. infantry was deployed in the town behind the first row of buildings to remain out of the LOS of enemy armor.

Our defense centered in the town

Some infantry was spotted crossing the river and were quickly taken care of by one of our captured T-34 crews. The enemy managed to cross the frozen river and successfully sneak into the southern section of town capturing the southern end of the bridge. Thankfully there were no casulties.

Day 1 A.M.

Baburkin

Strategic overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

Our defense was spread to prevent any penetration by the enemy. We enjoyed the advantage of having armor and deployed our 2 remaining Stug's behind hilll 399 to protect our supply lines. We also had 3 MG's deployed in an arc to catch the russian infantry in the open.

As soon as the battle started our MG in the town opened fire on a russian unit on the opposite bank of the river cutting it to pieces. However it quickly drew fire from 4 enemy mortars forcing it to cease fire and withdraw.

Russian infantry sneaked up Hill 399 and was quickly spotted by a recon team. Once the Soviet infantry reached near the top of the hill they opened fire causing heavy casulties. The soviets returned fire decimating the team.

Our 2 Stugs were well placed and didn't allow the Soviet infantry to advance any further but they were able to sieze the Heights. Once again casulties were kept to a minimum and the Soviets were forced to pay for their small gain.

Day 1 A.M.

Sapanovka

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed

Forces were dispersed through the northern and southern sections of town to defend against the soviet attack

As soon as the battle started Russian artillery opened up on our Panzer IV turret. It took a beating and even some direct hits that killed half its crew and disabled its main gun however it withstood the barrage.

The russians tried to attack on the eastern edge of town through the fortifications but our Flamethrowers were directly in their path and made themselves some babequed soviets!

There was little action to report in this sector and few casulties. The soviets gained little ground

Day 1 A.M.

Novo Ragatschik

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed

The bulk of our forces in this sector were concentrated in the town itself with a few rear guards and an AT gun on the west bank of the river.

As expected the soviets advanced into the town. While our Pak 40 knocked out the Russian armor and AT gun, our infantry engaged in a fierce firefight with the enemy.

It was discovered that the soviet infantry in the sector is a mix of militia, policemen, and penal squads so our superior german infantry was able to inflict a considerable amount of damage. They captured little of the town and sustained heavy casulties.

Day 1 A.M.

Rakotino

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed into battle

The defense in this sector was centered around the southern section of town in anticipation of the Russian attack. Support forces were placed in the northern section of town. A few units were placed around the hill divided the 2 sections.

The battle opened with a Russian barrage on the front houses in the southern section of town. An estimated 4 mortars and 2 artillery observers began to pound the buildings

Russian infantry began pouring into the area and a fierce firefight quickly erupted.

The Russian artillery quickly claimed our Pak36(r) and SdKfz22 leaving only our AT halftrack in service.

Russian infantry continued to swarn through the sothern section of town and overwhelmed our positions. Our halftrack was ordered to flee but found intself consumed in the attack wave.

We can not continue in this sector unless we put up a stronger defense. We took heavy casulties including 3 vehicles and lost the southern bank of the river. However we are still in control of the main part of town as well as the bridge.

SIR! We have received an urgent transmission from the Zybenko sector!

...EVERYWHERE! I REPEAT! SOVIET HEAVY ARMOR IS EVERYWHERE! THEY ARE ADVANCING RAPIDLY THROUGH THE TOWN OF ZYBENKO! VERY LITTLE AT SUPPORT AVAILABLE! REQUEST IMMEDIATE REINFORCEMENTS TO REPEL ATTACK! WE WILL TRY TO DELAY THE ARMOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE SOVIETS OVERWHELM OUR DEFENSE! WE WILL FIGHT ON FOR THE FATHERLAND!

Unfortunately as you know we have no reinforcements to send. They will have to protect their lines and continue with a fighting withdrawal to sap the soviets strenght. There is little doubt that this is one of the areas where the soviets are directing their main attack

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed

Defense was scattered through the town to attempt to delay the Soviet advance as long as possible.

Russian armor was spotted across the river and provided cover for infantry as they advanced through the town. Our sharpshooters killed a few soldiers but the Russian armor prevented many of our units from opening fire.

The Russians advanced into town in all directions. Our casulties were few but I fear it will not remain that way for long...

Day 1 A.M.

Malo Rossochka

Strategic Overview

The following forces were deployed

Our defense was concentrated in the northern section of town with a few forces deployed in the south to protect supply lines.

The Soviet armor advanced over the hill one by one and were picked off by our Pak 40 and our Panzer IV turrets. Infantry advanced southward but without armor support couldn't advance very far.

We held the Soviets off very well in this sector and destroyed 3 tanks and only losing 1 ourselves. The Soviets were not allowed to enter the town.

Very nice games and some great AARs Smile

Just a suggestion:- I came into this cold never having played this mod before, It is hard for the Soviets to pick suitable forces in the first battle in most of the maps as they have no idea from where they are coming from (guess they left the maps at home Very Happy ), would it be possible to include in the briefing the point of entry? ....just something like 'You will be attacking from the North West' for example. If it can't be done no worries and the Soviets should pick mostly recce teams to 'sound out the ground' for the first round, which in itself is pretty realistic, as most armies conduct some sort of recce before comitting forces to the attack.

Looking forwards to the next set of battles Smile

All power to the Peoples Soviets, long live the Motherland!

Cheers

Sorry, I was going to mention that but forgot. The reason casulties are so few on some maps isn't because of my defense but because Ronson hadn't played SOC before so he is using the first round to gain a better feel on what forces deploy where. So round 2 should be heavier in action. See you on the battlefield Ronson!

Unfortunatly for the next 3 battles my laptop battery went dead before I could save the pictures. (Forgot to plug it in Sad ) But the good news is, I found how to post full size images, so enjoy!

Day 1

Borodkin

Strategic Overview

The soviets came into town with several T-34's and all we had for defense were a couple pak 38's. Our deficency in AT weapons quickly became apparent when our defense was quickly overrun. The soviets swarmed over our position so quickly, that 11 men from 4 seperate units surrendered in under 40 seconds. Those that didn't surrender quickly found themselves under the soviet steamroller. Our goal was to protect ALL our supply lines and in this we failed. The soviets were able to capture the road to Kasialinsk in the south. Thankfully, we still control the road to Bolsche Rossochka and are still able to bring in what few supplies we can spare.

Day 1 AM

Iljovinskaia

Strategic Overview

For the most part things were very quite in this sector. The Russians snuck into position then launched their attack. They didn't get to far, but managed to take the hill and edge their way into the eastern section of town.

Day 1 AM

Jelchi

Strategic Overview

Our Rumanian allies are positioned in this sector and surprisingly performed quite well. If only they had performed this well when the soviets first launched their offensive... Anyhow, the soviets attacked through a minefield we had strategically placed in the area and were forced to pay for their attack. Our mortars managed to set off the mines killing scores of Russians. Furthermore, our superiority in tanks prevented any real threat from emerging. A few russian cowards attempting to flee the slaughter managed to find refuge in a small house in town. We will quickly organize a counter offensive to drive them from the town.

Day 1 AM

Petschanka

Strategic Overview

In the sector of Petschanka the Soviets have managed to grab a foothold in the area and we began the battle with unfavorable position. They launched the attack from the town itself and we were forced to defend the outskirts to the west and a few warehouses to the south. The soviets directed their attack west and managed to take the rest of the town. We were able to retain control of the hill and the warehouses to the south. Our supply line is intact as well.
