Heyo

I've recently gotten into the world of CCV mods, having played the game for years, and being a bit of a history obsessive I'm really interested in the idea of doing some more obscure mods, inspired by a lot of the stuff out there at the minute.

Only trouble is, I've got absolutely NO clue about graphics, sound, mapping etc. I'm not so hot with computers!

Basically, I just thought I'd throw some ideas in, see if anyone has any fun with them. And hey, if anybody fancys working on one and they need someone to do the research, I'm your man...

Demyansk Pocket: early 1942, saw a selection of battered German units (including the bulk of 3rd SS-Division "Totenkopf" and bits of 3rd Motorised) encircled for two months and largely destroyed. Could be an interesting one to do as a pocket mod, or a full thing. It's quite obscure but I think it could allow for some really interesting early-Ost Front work.

Inspired by the CoI mod "Ardennes to Hurtgen", something maybe focussed on the allied forces fighting across the Rhine and into Germany, maybe Aachen or something, in early '45...

Again inspired by CoI, maybe a "Poland" mod for CCV as well... could focus on a particular sector of the campaign rather than the whole thing.

A 3rd Kharkov mod, which could draw inspiration from both 2nd Kharkov and Kursk mods... but maybe too samey.

Something focussing on the early days of Barbarossa?

A mod for the allied invasion of southern France, Operation Dragoon. Less well known again, but with some interesting possibilities.

And, out of the Second World War, maybe a mod/pocket mod for Dien Bien Phu, the last great engagement of the French Indochinese War in 1954: Foreign Legion, Paras and Colonial rifles against the Viet Minh.

I don't know if any of these ideas spark the imagination... who knows![/b]

Hi,

I totally agree with what you say here. I believe that DDay, Ardennes, etc.... are really boring now. THey are important historically, but give the impression that the war began in 1944....

Demyansk might be fantastic. I LOVE thesebattles where an encircled force has to hold the terrain, ...as you know (think about DK, Bir Hakeim,....). Maybe we could do something together on that.

Dien bien Fuh as well, for the same reasons. I am moding Bir Hakeim with the unit (the 13rd Foreign Legion) 12 years before. Real mens. Fantastic

Kharkov3 is obvious but causes problems. Very long to mod and the Stratmap would be very difficult to define.

Last: Anvil (what you call Dragoon) Very good as well. I am thinking about this one.

What can I say more? JUst that CC moding does NOT require to be a PC specialist (I AM NOT AT ALL). JUst to be a little curious and, the most important:

- PATIENCE. A mod is 2 years work
- Wanting REALLY to do it
- Unfortunately, don't expect a lot from the community. People are like that.

Cheers
PJ

Heavy, I very much like the way you're thinking!

Operation Circle is so awesome BECAUSE of the reality of it, and the impossibility of holding out as the Germans. Which is why I think Demyansk could be a great challenge too, maybe explore other similar situations like Cholm or Cherkassy.

Bir Hakeim sounds like it will be really good, a great concept. Thanks for the encouragement on those ideas, I really think I should invest a little time in checking out the workings (making maps, the stats and things). If you do ever fancy working on anything it'd be fantastic to do so: I love your work, and its great to find a shared interest!

Courage, mon ami!

-D

The Battle of Smolensk could be a good idea for a mod. Instead of being just a battle it actually turned out to be a full campaign.
Here's some information on it that I've read in the past few days.

On this note, I really, REALLY would like to see a mod featuring the One Year War from the Gundam Universal century.

hi,
my suggestions:

iran-iraq war:
-iraq with better russian t-55 and t-62 tanks and artillery support
-iran with better morale and very big infantry waves
during the war there were many different stages, for example the first iraqi attack which was stopped in the bigger cities by iranian spirit. later the iraqis chose to dig their tanks in and defend the massive iranian counterattack. so there are many possibilities to make different interesting scenarios.

eritrea vs. ethiopia...
This war wasn't like all the other "primitive" wars in africa. It was real tactics and well equipped soldiers who were organized. Eritrea has a much smaller population than ethiopia and was using defensive trench tactics. they are like prussia in 18th and 19th century. Good morale and discipline. On the other side Ethiopia used tanks like the germans did in ww2 and eritrea with their little manpower answered with heavy defensive artillery barrages like in ww1. so it would also suit the CC5 environment very well.
