PostPosted: Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:53 pm Post subject: Utah mod - why so lethal? Reply with quote

I just tried the Utah mod for the first time but gave up in the middle of the first battle.
I loved the new bigger maps and the huge teams, I could even possibly put up with the "KICK BUTT" at the beginning. But the realism seems to have taken a massive blow r.e. accuracy of fire etc. It seems that every time one team fires at another team, almost everyone is killed instantly.
I lost 6 men dead to one grenade burst. Within seconds of an infantry vs infantry firefight beginning (my men were all behind good cover) both sides had been virtually annihilated.
Its a pity because I'd love to play the mod - is there any "mod for a mod" I could use? Something to restore the level of realism back to the original and GSJ, Meuse etc?

Lethality modelling of weapons in Close Combat, now there's a question that there seems no answer for.... well, plenty of debate about anyway.

First off...did you try D-Day Utah Sector (http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=240) or Utah (http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=200)?

They're very different mods...Utah Sector (by L4W) even implement new radical map coding/elements.
I prefer Utah (by Dima)...basically the same as the original CC5 with more historical teams and units...this was the mod I recommended to you on the other thread. AFAIK no issue with weapons lethality in this Utah mod.
This Utah mod also use the same maps and stratmap as the original CC5...no new bigger maps (bigger maps = poor AI performance).
You want to see extremely lethal weapons? Play CC4 VetBob and CCMT Wink

I kinda guessed you loaded the wrong Utah mod Smile
Have fun with Dima's Utah...IMHO it's much better than the original CC5 version of Utah.
I really like the varied weapons configuration of the squads and the historical BGs.
And CC5 vs the AI always plays better on smaller maps (the original game is played on smaller maps).

Yes, its fantastic. I love the sound in particular.
Having some weird bugs though, nothing very serious and, I presume, down to me recently playing Meuse. My Americans are speaking German (and their victory location markers are German) and the Germans are speaking French (and their markers are tricolours)!

Looks like Meuse didn't uninstall properly.
I guess you need to uninstall and reinstall CC5 to fix things.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
