Heres an idea....

Minimum ranges are not publiched anywhere so its usually a guessing game on figuring them out.

Units indicate minimum firing distance by LOS line and target reticle. As soon as your stretch the line to the minimum distance hit chances increase, anything below its a low hit chance and they just wont fire or they fire secondary weapons. The indication from the LOS line and target reticle can be overlooked easily either by assigning a target quickly or assigning fire remotely using numbers or the soldier indicator.

Examples...

If you issue a fire command to a mortar team which is below its minimum range, and you have clear LOS, the unit will fire rifles without indicating they are too close for mortars.

If you issue a fire order to the mortar team with normal broken LOS which is under the minimum range they will not fire and they will not tell you why.

Lets have a verbal warning like, "Were too close!" or something that just gets the message through.

Good idea! There is a voice-clue for most other disruptions, why not this one?

"When the tough gets going, I run to live to run another day..."

"Is this trip really necessary?"

At least announce it when in the BG screen, instead of just the sound of the weapon when you click on it, a range and effectiveness indicator should come out, like what you see for the teams while in-game, much more useful than just the sound playing. Also the teams description were a nice addition, they should come back.

Not all of us are gun experts and it could help decide what guns are effective against what.

I was playing stock CC3 the other day and i could swear there was a minimum range indicator-when selecting wurframmen(rocket halftrack) and when dragging the cursor around to give it a fire command would give a green highlight if far enough away and yellow if too close

for instance, telling units to fire on themselves(0 meters) IIRC has a black outline

A verbal warning is a great idea to avoid this confusion

Surely if the name of the weapon appears on the BG selection screen, a simple adding of the Min range column wouldn't be that hard, specially having the tools, code and the knowledge to do it like the folks at Matrix.

A colored range/effectiveness indicator like what we see in game would be best but that would be more difficult to implement.

Amazing-i was playing CC5-karkov mod and got this message when ordering wurfrahmen to order fire about 197 meters away. so i guess the warning does exist sometimes?  Shocked although the text says its "out of range" without specifying why
