Anybody here play Combat mission? Ever thought of giving it a chance?

Its a very fun game, when i first got it I didnt like it much. But it grows on you!

Nothing like mounting your panzer grenadieres on a Sdfz 251/1 halftrack and ridin' them in!....

Yeah I played the first CM demo as well as the Barbarossa To Berlin demo - i liked them both but it would be better if it was less symbolic and more fun, like showing all the guys in a squad instead of just 3, that bugged me a lot for some reason. I want to find a full version of Barbarossa on-line sometime...

The CM:BB demo doesnt really repesent the whole game, it was just to show the differnces between CM:BB and CM:BO. Try to buy CM:BB its worth the money and lots of fun... Alot more options, more realistic...

I bought CMAK and have got my regrets I must say.

THe infantry representation bugs the hell out of me too, its ridiculous and hard coded into the game. Why go to so much effort graphics wise with everything else then pay so little attention to the infantry detail.

This is what really spoiled the game for me, I basically want cmak with Squad assault style infantry and real time action.

The historical detail and depth of knowledge is superb but the infantry are a real letdown and look and feel ridiculous.

Hope CMX2 addresses these issues. OR Wartime Command comes out.

CM is just one of three must have classics.

The three would be likely Close Combat series, Coimbat Mission series and Steel Panthers series.

I depends on who you ask which is the better. And all of them were made by people trying to make Advanced Squad Leader into a computer game.

There are lots of games out there, but I doubt you will find more active modders and scenario makers for any other game.

Take what I say seriously at your peril.

Troger I do agree with you that this game grows on you but at the same time Destraex got some good points with the speed of the game and the infantry.

slow game.... good to play by email I guess ....never played anyone but the AI.

Yes. It's all so dreadfully serious over at Battlefront.

This is the first main gripe of the Close Combat player against Combat Mission. Unfortunately, 3 men are it; that wasn't just the demo!

They are going to try and rectify the problem in CMX2. This creates an interesting possibility. What is the opinion here about these two games converging?

Exactly

Destraex wrote:

This brings us to the second main gripe of the Close Combat player against Combat Mission. As a general rule, Close Combat can be stripped down to its engine and rebuilt. Modding in Combat Mission amounts to changing the colour of your hub caps. They claim (two thirds way down the page):

http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=010293;p=2

that this reduces compatibilty problems.

I agree with you on the figures.

They set great store by their "wego" system. I think it has merit given the size of their battles. Even if we could control brigade actions, our computers could not!

Agreed again

I thought that Close Combat was based on Advanced Squad Leader; whereas Steel Panthers and Combat Mission stemmed from the Yacquinto trio: Panzer/88/Armour?

... And finally, some shameless trumpet blowing:
