It looks like same as terrain whch Ottoman Fourth Army Fought in WWI at Palestine Sector. There is Riverside and a Hill surrounded by maquis plants. Typical Mediterranean.

Definately not Modern Tactics or CCM any version, for that matter. None use sat photo backgrounds.

Low population arid area relying on the river for irrigation. A fringe area but with a major highway. Note the circular field on the right boarder - typical for US western states, not sure how widespread the practice in other regions.

Some further observations:

Farm on the right side has about six buildings. Looks like a single family operation.

The hill has mesa like steep cliff walls that plateau to genteler slopes. The structure lower to the left has a domed top and a compound wall. "H" looking structures appear to be a collection of smaller buildings. The diagonal line suggests towers or tall trees. It has a monastery look to it.

The river has two cataracts. One around the island near the "W" and one farther right. Not navigable, so not a trading route.

The "town" bottom left has side, or service road that is paved with different material than the (asphalt) highway, probably concrete. The buildings are large, suggesting local wealth. One south of the highway has a back area the size of a tennis court or covered pool. The line above them that angles up left shows a color variation in the vegatation, which suggest it is a leaking water pipeline providing water to areas south and downhill.

If this is a battle site, it is not WWII. I'd put it in the US as an Indian Wars site (but not Little Big Horn) or South African. Other than that, I'm stumped.

Senior_Drill you are doing very well.

You got the location correct with South Africa. And for spotting the part of the circular farmland on the top right, a center-pivot irrigation system. Ignore the structures on the big hill, they are a modern addition, communication towers.

You are right that the river branches are not navigable, but it’s fordable.

It is a railway embankment that creates the different coloured background and crosses the river at the Wikipedia icon.

Yes, it took place during one of the Boer Wars.

Got it! The Battle of Paardeberg. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Paardeberg . It took the clues and confirmation that it was South Africa and from the Boer Wars to sort through the dozens of battlefields.

"The Battle of Paardeberg or Perdeberg ("Horse Mountain") was a major battle during the Second Anglo-Boer War. It was fought near Paardeberg Drift on the banks of the Modderrivier ("Mud River") in the Orange Free State near Kimberley.

The battle was the culmination of a move by British forces to defeat Boer forces under Cronje and to relieve the besieged city of Kimberley. The retreating Boer army under Piet Cronjé were intercepted at Paardeberg, and surrendered after a prolonged siege, having fought off an attempted direct assault by Lieutenant General Horatio Kitchener."
