(User Info | Send a Message) | I sort of agree with Mooxe. Long north to south fields with what appears to be east-west "crop" rows. This is a very large area with at least 3 small communities. The tree areas are in leave yet there are dry areas and evidence of mineral leeching from the hills in the north. A semi- arid region.
The size of the fields and the regular pattern says this is a "newly settled" area. Within the last couple hundred years as the fields are large and regular that have not been broken up by generations of partitioning to surviving sons. The fields are far too large for most of Europe.
I think Franzauk has brought us back to southern Africa again, unless he is deliberately trying to trick me with somewhere in Oklahoma! Gonna have to look at both now. |

(User Info | Send a Message) | Yes, they do look like bluffs and quite dry, or at least lacking soil. Notice the lack of vegetation on the slopes compare to the other areas. There is another hill on the right side of the map with what might be a mound in the upper right corner. At the bottom is another rise.
The road (and I do believe that this is a road and is not a railroad line that tripped me up before) running West to East, or at least left to right goes over a low hill on the left of center in the picture. It isn't all that high compared to those at the top, but enough to change the retangular pattern of the fields in favor of the farming access roads. The road passing over that hill seems to have an old road and a new bypass section above it. To the rightof center, the road also seems to go over low hills, or at least rough country, but does not follow a creek bed.
While it probably has nothing to do with the battle we are searching for, the diagonal structure at top center puzzles me. A viaduct? A mine adit? Environmental porn art when viewed from space?

(User Info | Send a Message) | I'd say not, Mooxe. The land was not developed at the time of the battle. Hardly an acre of France, especially good bottom land like in the image, wasn't totally cultivated by 1500 and broken into small fields by the 1700's. The fields are just too larger and too regular. Most of the fields are (if the orientation of the image is to be believed) true north to south, with the rest at a declination of about 7 degress west, which could be magnetic north.
It just don't look like anywhere in France or Belgium that I can find in Google. I gotta reload NASA's World Wind again for a fresh set of eyes. |

My first tought when looking at this picture was the valley where the german armed forces escaped the rushing allied forces in southern France... But I can't find the location. but it even might be Italy or Spain what we are looking at...
or are we fully of scope... meaning are we looking to the wrong continent... seen the fact that this map looks well cultivated and organised we might be looking at plantations... maybe India or Indonesia?
About the units wich might be deployed. I have to agree with SD almost everything can be deployed here... most likely not Airbone's other than that you could deploy almost everything in this kind of terrain. Recon, Tanks, Infantry....
Its hard to narrow the scope on this map... even Mafi isn't able to solve this one ;)
