We have to remember that the tank wether it be the Tiger, the Sherman or the T-34, is more than just a weapon used to assault enemy emplacements, or defend positions. It is also a psychological weapon as well, and of all the weapons of WWII, the Tiger leads the pack.

My grandfather was with the 5th Ranger Bn, that went up Pont duHoc at Normandie. I asked him once if he was ever scared to the point of wanting to run. He said that after they had taken the emplacements at Pont duHoc, his platoon sergeant came down and they were to brace for a counter attack from a battalion of Tigers. He said that was the one time that he wasn't sure if he was ever going to make it. The attack never came, and he went on to win the Silver Star in another engagement. But this demonstrates the effect a tanks reputation has on the infantry. Wether this is deserved or not, we will never know, but no one can deny that the Tiger will always be at the forefront of any armor discussion.

Yes, in both books, Panzer Battles and Panzer Commander, both authors talk about had the POME (Point of Main Effort) been to head south and encircle the American forces once a break thru had been achieved, the outcome would have been drastically different. VonMellenthin says that the majority of Pattons and Bradleys armys would have been captured, thus effectively eliminating the American involvement in Europe.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
