This community made the game last this long. We've carved a small empire out of this gigantic internet. Close Combat lives on because we enabled it to. This is our game!

the only reason why this now a debate, after CC was mainly a modded game and had no attention for so long is that all of the sudden somebody sees profit potential

Does anyone know when the legal copyright expires?

Destineer own Close Combat, both legally and 'morally'. The arguments put forward for 'Community' ownership are risible. You may say that your 'earned' the 'right'. Which particular Statute does this relate to? You are assuming a 'moral' imperative where non exists, only in your own minds. I am not a Copyright lawyer so do not know what conditions there may be for Copyright expiration. Perhaps someone knows?

As much as the community has done the owner remains the legal copyright owner in my view. If it were not this way we likely would not have the game in the first place nor would we have much chance of a good remake. Btw I don't consider any of the recent 'remakes' (scoff) of this game qualify in our debate - they've basically rebadged a 10+ yo game. Although that is a great testament again to the original. The creators deserve to profit forever off anything this good. The community own the mods which have vastly improved the original game. With any luck whoever does a real remake will take a serious consultation with the die-hard fans. The 'community' could buy the rights through the appropriate means... maybe some of you savvy guys should form a sydicate and really do something with this? Your belief in the game is sure to make it a winner...

Yeah, the whole fucking community made the corpse last for a lot of time. But it is fucking irrelevant. You know why? Because unlike the guys that made it you weren't able to do anything near that. Actually, you weren't able to create even something 1/10 as good for what it is as Close Combat. You were just playing with the corpse instead of getting some decent education and making an open source community game. So fuck you an fuck your bullshit about how you "own" the game.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
