I voted for mystical, because this tank is a symbol.

Mystical. I go for that symbolic stuff.
Made allied tankers and soldier crap their pants when they saw one.
Green soldier tended to belive that every pz they saw was a Tiger, basicly.

a cool looking beast. I love them, (in games) scary yes and psychological and all the rest. They tend to get talked down a lot, like the stuka. No weapon is going to win a war by itself. The German's were always going to lose, not enough manpower or resources to sustain a drawn out engagement - which is what it was always going to be. The tiger made sense if you know quality is your best chance over quantity but doomed none-the-less. Good job too!

when it started arriving at the front lines in late 1942-early 1943 , (first in russia), it helped mansteinstop the red armys winter offensive and retake kharkov , but once the surprise was gone, both the soviets and allies learned of its weaknesses, both in kursk( slow speed and slow turret rotation), and then in tunisia, where the british used their new 17 pounders to knock them out. By normandy 1944 the allies had the upper hand (or the whole hand) in air power, so the tiger was used mostly in defensive duties anyways(in which it excelled) and many were destroyed by the allies overwhelming air power advantage. By the battle of the bulge, more tigers and kingtigers were abandoned by their own crews due to lack of fuel (since they were such petrol-guzzlers) , rather than by enemy actions. And by the time Josef stalin tanks came around , it was both outranged and outgunned. A good design ,but it was another one of those "too little, too late" constructs.

Overrated - the Germans only produced a tiny number in comparison to huge numbers of T-34's and American Shermans. Yes 1-on-1 it was deadly at long distance. However the Allies had just too many tanks for the Tiger to be effective. Plus the Soviets in particular learned how to ambush with a simple molatov cocktail.

Overated - There are too many stories of 20 Tiger's leaving for battle and 2-3 actually arriving.

Overrated - As a piece of weapons engineering it was a poor design and behind the times- armour not sloped, hard to produce, underpowered. However when combined with the cream of the Panzerwaffe who used it at the Schwerepunkt of a counter-offensive, that's where the terror for the oppenent comes in. How would you like to know that Bobbi Wohl has you in his sights... that's Mystical!

Tank Commander Michael Wittmann instructed his Tigers to approach the target at a 30 degrees or better angle. Maybe that is why he was a Tiger Ace who survived for so long.
