Although the Market plan calls for the 1st Polish Parachute Brigade to land near Elden at the south end of the Arnhem bridge, poor weather in England has delayed the third lift for days, forcing them to be re-routed to a new drop zone near Driel.  Althoug not vital in itself, control of Driel gives us the option of either a Rhine crossing via the ferry to Heveadorp or a quick strike towards the southern end of the Arnhem rail or road bridges.
Driel's only importance is as a blocking position between the British paratroops north of the Rhine and Allied reinforcements fighting their way up from Nijmegen.  Prevent the Allies from linking up and the entire British 1st Airborne Division will be trapped north of the Rhine, and ripe for destruction.
