Named for a local farm, the area around Johanna Hoeve contains Landing Zone L, the planned landing site for the glider elements of the 1st Polish Airborne Brigade, scheduled to come in with the third lift.  It is also along the planned route of march for the 4th Parachute Brigade, which is to pass through the area to secure the supply drop zones and high ground north of Arnhem.
Named for a local farm, the area around Johanna Hoeve may become important in establishing a blocking line to halt the British paratroops advancing on Arnhem.  If we are successful in halting the British west of the city, you may also have to clear this area to 'put the lid' on the enemy airborne troops trapped on the north side of the Rhine.
