Following the second lift on September 18th, 1st Airlanding Brigade will then move into this area, and it will become part of the south-eastern side of the British perimeter around Arnhem. Control of South Oosterbeek will deny the British airborne troops the southern route into Arnhem, as well as the quickest way to the rail road bridge. If the British become established in the Oosterbeek area, attacking here can break their contact with the Rhine river and cut them off from reinforcements.
