"At 1400 hours XXX corps with the Guards Armoured Division in the lead launched it's attack against the german line south of Vaalkensward. Facing unexpected resistance the ground forces have been delayed and forced to halt for the night in Valkenswaard. The Guards will resume their advance at dawn on the 18th."
"In the afternoon on the 17th allied armoured forces broke through our lines at the Neerpelt bridgehead. By the valiant efforts of the men of the Fallschirmjäger regiment von Hoffman the allies have been delayed, being forced to halt for the night in the village of Valkenswaard. This has given us enough time to organize a new defensive line south of Aalst consisting of remnants of the Fallschirmjäger regiment von Hoffman and assault guns from the 559 heavy tank hunter battalion."
