Elements of 1st Parachute Brigade will pass through West Oosterbeek on Septmeber 17th, on their way into Arnhem.  Following the second lift on September 18th, 1st Airlanding Brigade will then move into this area, and it will become part of the western side of the British perimeter around Arnhem.
Control of Western Oosterbeek will deny the British airborne troops the western route into Arnhem. Delaying them here will give us enough time to bring in reinforcements to mount a counter-attack.
