Statistics

- Total bandwidth usage for August 661 GB of 2000GB

- The stats go like this... Kilobytes---%of total bandwidth used (661GB)---filename

77655982 11.73% GJS44packmap.zip
72833860 11.01% CC3_DOF2_Mappack.zip
45414515 6.86 CC5_Stalingrad_MapPack.zip

(77 vs 72 vs 45 GB, divide these numbers by the actual size of the file, and you get a rough estimate of how many separate people downloaded the file)

- Top Referrer Sites - Red Devils Clan followed by Pzt Clan followed by CSO. Referrer sites are sites that link CCS, when a user follows that link to this site, that is called a referrer. RD Clan has over 20,000 referred hits. Most of these are linked images. Pzt, 11827+ and CSO, 3748+.

- 99 Separate countries accessed this site

- 16,842 Unique visitors. The actual unique visitors is less. 16,843 represents every different IP. Some users have dynamic IPs, some have static.

- Approx. 1200 Unique visitors daily.

Server Updates

Theres a number of updates that were made to the forums..

- Similair topics now display at the bottom of the thread
- Mouseover topic quick view
- Copy to clipboard option added
- Last post info added to bottom of forum index
- Thread starter cannot increase the view count of his own thread
- Google Ads were inserted (bottom left)
- Contribution option was added (bottom left) - This option is only added for the sole reason for people to thank us and the community in a monetary way. CCS is not donation dependant, it is payed for privately. Monetary contributions are simply just to soften the bill.

Stats for the past five months. Numbers are total gigabytes transferred by this website.

July 2008 1,020.32
June 2008 1,151.44
May 2008 1,005.50
April 2008 1,352.47
March 2008 1,266.54

Out of the 25,000 users approx 1700-2100 are active during the last 30 days.

Due to a military deployment, there will not be any other server updates, website enhancements or anything of that nature untill Spring 2009. Downloads and players news will run normally.

Some UFI for bean counters...

Matrix Games has only recently taken the lead over Wikipedia. Wikipedia held the lead for a non search engine type site for a few years. Wikipedia still leads the way in the % of new users it sends to CCS.

"Direct" which is #2 shows people who visited CCS from thier browser bookmarks.

Stats for CCS are going back up after a very slow summer. From August 20th to September 20th 2009

23,263 Visits
10,672 Absolute Unique Visitors
188,795 Pageviews
8.12 Average Pageviews
00:06:28 Time on Site
34.46% Bounce Rate
40.36% New Visits

Almost 11,000 unique visits. Unqiue means they have thier own IP, which potentially means they are all separate people. 40% of those are new visits. 60% are returning users. 34% of those 11,000 came by quickly and left (bounce rate).

Bandwidth usage in Gigabytes per month of a permitted 1500gb.

September 2009, 750 (so far)
August 2009 1,018.36
July 2009 1,087.24
June 2009 885.18
May 2009 1,030.47
April 2009 1,070.25

The server plan now includes 3000Gigabytes per month in bandwidth, vice 1500. No more overage charges now. This was a free upgrade for CCS. CCS has gone over the limit twice since 2004. Now that the limit has been doubled, I plan to reinvest some time into torrenting more mods. What else can be done with extra bandwidth?

Full FTP access granted to entire mod archive once again. Downloads section via website no longer needs registration.

Looks like it's pretty high in a historical context?

#12: Re: CCS Statistics and Server Updates Author: mooxe PostPosted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 1:25 am
    —
Yes, for three reasons most likely. Users are not required to register to download mods anymore, FTP access to all mods is granted and torrents of mods have been restarted. So you can say that since my montly limit has been doubled, I am able to open the flood gates now!

Active Registered Users

Since January 1st 2010, 1363 of the 31737 users visited and logged into the site. Thats 5.15% active for 2010.

Since January 1st 2009, 6401 of the 31737 users visited and logged into the site. Thats 20% active.

01 Jan 2008 to 10 March 2010, 10101 of 31737 registered users logged in atleast once...

New upgrade in the works.

From

P4 2.4Ghz
2Gb RAM
320 IDE HD
3000Gb traffic per month

To

Celeron 420 1.6Ghz
4Gb RAM
500Gb SATA2 HD
10,000Gb traffic per month

This upgrade will save $240 per year.

What can I do with all the extra traffic allowance?

Make every download double, for backups and stuff. There's never enough backups.

Well the upgrade is done... and it went rather fast.

CCS is now on a Celeron 1.6Ghz, 4Gb RAM and SATA2 HD.

Along with working on standardizing download filenames and folder structure I am removed much of the clutter around the website. I am doing this in the hopes of eventually streamlining how the website presents CC, how to play online and how to install mods.

Stats from January 1st 2011 to March 15 2011

- New user registrations took another nosedive over the past 30 days. Hotmail, GMail and Yahoo accounts are no longer accepted. I realize a good percentage of these accounts belong to real people, but another good percentage belong to bots. So far only one person has contacted me for manual registration. The only reason to register is to post in forums or view Combat Camera now. Everything else is available for anonymous users.

- Bandwidth per month is still over 2000Gb

- Total page views of the entire site will crush the the total page views of 2010, if the trend keeps up

- FTP site getting daily activity, but not much

- Site speed increased

- All in all, no change from last year. Activity has been on an even keel for the past few years

Feel free to look at the attached PDF file from Google Analytics.

Visits to CCS have been down the last half of March. After a modification to the site, Google Bots have been bouncing off the site, thus removing the site from the top 3 of a search for "close combat". Hopefully be back soon, has happened many times before.

#25: Re: CCS Statistics and Server Updates Author: mooxe PostPosted: Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:43 am

Back on Google. While the site was off Google's radar, there was a steady 5-600 visits today with about 350-450 unique users. That looks about right with some other stats I ran the past few months. There is about 350-450 regular site users. This is about a 60% drop in regular users from 2008-2009, but visits are still the same as they were. Less regulars and more drivebys in other words.

Does thattranslate as

less people interested in Close Combat visiting?

#27: Re: CCS Statistics and Server Updates Author: mooxe PostPosted: Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:34 pm
    —
In 2009 I turned off the rule that made people register for downloads. Registrations dropped immensly, that accounts for that huge dive. You only need to register to post in forums now. That could explain why there is so much less registered users active on the site but still the same amount of traffic hitting the site daily.

Been very busy this year everyone. Site has not seen many updates. For the past six weeks I have been on exercize with the artillery and I am posted to a new base as well in July. Everything should be back to normal after the summer.

Movers are here. I am keeping track as best I can with all the new mods and submod news, as well patches. All the new Matrix patches are available via FTP now. CC Players News will be out before end of July with a roundup of everything thats happened since last edition.

Thank you for the donations Rasputen and combot. Server bill is due in August. I believe we are only 100$ or so away from another year of CCS paid fully by ads and donations. Thank you everyone! I'll get an accurate number when I am moved in to my new house.

This is what happened. Still not sure what it was, but it has stopped for now. The incoming bandwidth skyrocketed using almost 5000Gb in bandwidth until it stopped. It was lagging other services on the site.

CCS will be moving again this year. Currently the site is costing 750$ approx. I am moving to a plan where it will only cost 230$ for three years!

The downside is there will be some downtime while I transfer everything. As well, the site is moving into a VPS or Cloud environment. Currently CCS is hosted on its very own dedicated computer, all by itself. VPS/Cloud environments mean its shared with 1000's of other sites. CCS could be slower I expect, but technology is so advanced now in web hosting I am keeping my fingers crossed that CCS will be the same or faster.

Thank-You very much for everything you do to maintain this site,I truly do miss it when it's down.

I'm curious about the ftp site you allowed me to have.

Is there a new address or is it gone period?

I made a few mistakes with the server over the past few months.

Moving to a shared server was a huge mistake. Since the site was using more resources than it was allowed the site admin disabled the site until I could fix what was wrong. There was really nothing wrong though. On shared servers you are only allowed to use a small percentage of all the available resources, CCS was using more than its allowed share. So CCS was forced to move again.

The website is now hosted on a virtual server. This virtual server only allows 20Gb of harddrive space. Due to the space limitations I cannot keep the mods on the same server.

The mods are hosted on a different server with unlimited space and bandwidth. Basically CCS is now split over two servers. Naturally I want to bring them back together.

My old server before I moved was about 70$ per month. I hope to move back to them but I have to sort out the finances again. Donations are back on! We'll see how it goes with donations and Google Ads, if I can pull in enough CCS will go back to the stability it had 6 months ago. All this switching back and forth hasn`t been easy. I have lost some very important files from old CC websites which is very embarrassing.

In the meantime CCS is pretty stable as it is now.

Still trying to fix image gallery. Its messed up a bunch of Player's News that had images linked to it. I am afraid it may be unfixable as this code is getting ancient now. I kind of think its a compatibility issue with some software on the server since it was always working on the previous server.

I modified the donations page with a new message from me. I will no longer be keeping a public list of all those who donate. It was done manually and its hard to find the time to always update. I do thank everyone for the continued donations! I have $250.00 saved up from ads and donations.. thanks again.

Some of you may have received a notification that a certain Blackhole Exploit kit was discovered on CCS by your virus scanner software. This exploit has been running rampant on the internet for years infecting hundreds of thousands of sites. CCS was infected recently. If you were not running Javascript I don't think your PC was in any danger. Its quite a well known exploit and I am sure all virus scanners block it. Please take precautions with your own PC.

All of you who had files or FTP accounts in the /Hosted portion of the site will not have access for awhile. Those files are all quarantined for now until I cleanse them.

Aha  Exclamation

Well, apart from what this thing might or might not be doing in the FTP file area of the server.

It seems that it is deleting uploaded images from the server as well (I thought you mentioned that somewhere)  Question

But, it would appear that it (the blackhole exploit  Question ) is being very selective over which images it deletes.

Maybe you should check the "New Close Combat" topic, and see if you can discern a pattern here.

It would appear that this virus is very intelligent, when selecting what content to delete.  Shocked

Not infecting images. Some images were lost due to reverting to backups. The exploit infected index files on the site, they have been fixed or moved.

OK, thanks again for messing with this. I am sure you would have rather been doing something else.

Luckily, Steiner has posted this on the matrix forum and that was how I could reach the website again after weeks.

I'm still getting this. For someone that doesn't have the website in his favorites and doesn't know how to access, it will be very difficult to enter the forums or downloads.

Thank for reporting!

Man... I would make a horrible server administrator.

I finally fixed the bug for the screenshot gallery.

I still have all the screenshots, but the database is gone. I lost the backup.

I will restart the gallery manually.

The Combat Gallery is back online.

I was able to restore some deleted files using a program called "Recover My Files."

Pretty good program. The gallery backup installed is from June 26, 2011!

haha...

Now that I have quit playing EVE Online I have time for my original favorite game and website.

I have restored many of the private FTP accounts as well.

The old websites CC5 SAS, CC5 Stalingrad, CC5 Afrika and BamBam887's site will remain offline to do the HTML files being riddled with malicious code.

The GJS, Stalingrad and Afrika strategic maps will stay offline to for the same reason.

So you may come across some dead links here and there.

CCS has been dropped from Google search results for awhile now. Usually a search for Close Combat put CCS in the top three search results, it was like this for years. A few things have affected this.

- Loss of Tournamenthouse.com website
- Reddevilscc.com shutting down
- PZT and other clan sites shut down
- Various other CC websites dieing off
- Malicious code inserted into some of CCS pages months ago
- Inactivity of portions of the site

The loss of all the CC related websites significantly reduced the amount of inbound links to CCS, which makes CCS less important to search results. The malicious code obviously wouldn't help either. The most obvious effect I see daily is less Ad revenue. The other effects that I cannot measure are overall traffic and interest of Close Combat/CCS.

I am working to get CCS back into Google's radar. Updating content and fixing site errors is what I have started with. Without all those relevant websites linking though it may be a long time before it happens.

Want to thank all the recent donators. CCS bank account is now at $274. Thats almost five months of CCS payed for. Ad revenue is really lagging now though due to CCS's low ranking on Google searches.

Thank you for all the donations in 2013. The bank account is looking healthy at $171 and another $74 is ad revenue waiting to be paid out. 2013 was not the greatest year for CCS. It was infected with the Blackhole Exploit kit, all the secondary websites (SAS, Stalingrad etc etc) were also affected. Those secondary websites are never coming back online due to every single HTML file having the exploit in them. I do have them backed up though if anyone wants to do the code cleanup. My main efforts of 2013 were reestablishing CCS on the top of the Google search results for the terms "Close Combat." This involved cleaning up the site of the exploit and making sure new stories appeared on the front page. Its working slowly, more often than not CCS is in the top five results now.

My main efforts for 2014 will be keeping an eye on the new Close Combats and providing my own summary of their status and features. I have had a very hard time dealing with all the new mods for the rereleases, its very confusing how everything is being ported to everything. When stable versions of these mods are out I will be adding them to the mod archives. That's only if they are verified to be stable and won't be constantly updated. For any of you guys involved in that please notify me when this happens as I do not follow all the forum threads.

Thanks again for all your support and activity on CCS. Have a great 2014!

Thank-You very much for everything you do to keep this site up and running.

And to everyone who has contributed $$$

I don't have any money to give but I'd be more than willing to donate a bunch of crap that you could then pawn off on others as a means to raise $$$

Say maybe all the CC crap I don't want anymore.
RTB
CCIV
CCV
CCIII
Eric Young's Squad Assult
And I think I may still have the original disk that came from the Marine Gazette for CCM
Above games are Disk's only. No Boxes.

Inside Moves book for CCII 278 pages by William Trotter, very good condition (Or if Mafi wants it he can have it)
Inside Moves book for CCIII 306 pages by William Trotter, very good condition.
CCIII Strategies & Secrets book by Mark L. Cohen323 pages, The book its-self is in good condition but the lamination on the front/back cover is wrinkled.

Maybe you could coax people with say a $5 contribution or whatever amount you decide.
Then say at the end of the year have a drawing of names for a winner.

Best I can do.
Sorry

On February 17th I started up Google Analytics again. Google keeps very useful stats, heres a short snapshot of 17 Feb - 16 Mar. As its a short month the raw number will increase some but not enough to affect any percentages.

Overview...

10370 visits (43.8% of these new visits, 56.1 returning visitors)
4621 Unique Visitors (unique meaning IP address, does not include web crawler bots, this is down about 40 to 50 percent from 2011)
79846 Pageviews
7.7 Pageviews per visit
8mins 3secs average time spent on site
28.69% Bounce rate (meaning they came to the site and left quickly)

Visitors Operating Systems...

85.39% Windows
5.87% iOS
4.77% Android

Visitors Web Browser...

34.20% Chrome

Visitors are from...

23.72% USA
8.35% UK
7.42% Canada
6.79% Italy
6.49% Sweden
4.26% Russia

How did those 10370 visits get to CCS...

54.72% Direct (bookmark or typed it in)
32.26% Google
2.01% Wikipedia
1.89% Bing
1.17% Matrix Games

I'm really glad to hear that statistics show an increase in the number of visits considerably!

Even though I have not been playing CC actively the past few years, I felt really bad when I heard that Mooxe was considering shutting down the site some time ago. CCS and the fellow members are too precious for me to lose them just like that. Just wanted to express that Smile

CCS has been trucking along fine since the beginning of this post. Visitor stats are down from the same time last year, I would estimate a less than 8% change. The website is healthy in a technicially speaking way, that is to say its virus and exploit free, backed up weekly, 99% uptime and most if not all website functions working properly. Site file updates are rare now. There are some new mods and patches coming out but they take me awhile to update due to interest level. Google Ad revenue and donations make up about no more than 50% of the sites $400 per year operating cost.

Unique visitors per day are between 305-450. The bounce rate of those visitors increased from 28% to 38% when compared to the same time last year. A bounce is when someone visits CCS and leaves very quickly afterwards. The average time someone spends on the site decreased from 8:35mins to 5:21 minutes. (I am ok with that number as I made the forums easily viewable. You can visit and see whats new in a matter of seconds, without scrolling the window or opening up multiple pages, but it still indicates an expected downward trend.)

So... Once unique visitors dips into the 200's and depending on The Bloody First's impact, we will debate again on whether or not to shutdown CCS. Until then, its smooth sailing.

^ I have been watching the steam community hub for GWC http://steamcommunity.com/app/297750 and a lot of people are interested and post there about stuff. Crackwise posted some neat guides. I don't think those people know about this site being dedicated to the CC stuff as well as a dedicated player community
(some of us have been here since cc1) , game downloads (including neat mods), polls, news and more. A typed in close combat game on google and this site was pretty close to #1 in results. You should try to get more sites linked maybe a link via wikipedia, although I swear I saw one linking to this site there once. Throw some links around on steam about the community at ccs, I'm sure those guys would sign up if they knew the content here. Better community and content than on steam by far. I am also sure that many people out there who play strategy would love this game if they were introduced to it. Maybe linking on some major strategy gaming sites.

Most US gamers seems to love more arcade fake crap and games they can exploit, hack or cheat in. This is the real stuff, Europeans etc seem to be more liking of strategy games. That kind of strategy here in the states died out when the board game craze died off.

I'm always championing Close Combat.

I try to get the word out there on Reddit, facebook, my blog and in real life.

Its because i still believe that its a great war game.

I like watching videos about scale models of military vehicles, like tanks, trucks, planes from wwii and other eras on youtube. Reading comments and noticing how people are interested in military era, realism and historical and technical details of military equipment. I feel there are still many people who would love CC but unfortunately not aware of it. How about commenting under these videos and mention CCS?

Worked on fixing the thumbnail problem this weekend. The problem was thumbnails would all come out the wrong colour. In the process of doing this certain modules on the server were updated. These modules were not compatible with the website and resulted in the downtime. I took this downtime as an opportunity to downgrade the server from a dual Zeon 5150, 8 GB RAM($29per month) to Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.8GHZ, 4 GB RAM ($10per month).

Thumbnail colours have been fixed. I also increased the max width so you can get a better view on game screenshots.

Please report any problems.

FTP users your accounts will have to be reset.

Hi Mooxe,

It seems I am no more "the owner" of my sub-folders (and of the files inside them) that I have created on my folder on this site.
Fortunately I can access/upload on my folder on this site without problems and I can create new sub-folders, but I can't upload (it says: "550 permission denied") in my old sub-folders and, more important, I can't cut&paste/delete/modify the files inside them. My old sub-folders are three of the four that are there, their names are: "TLD, WAR and CC5".

In my intention this was a PM, but I am obliged to write here because I can't send PM (to you for sure; to other users I don't know). It says: "General Error - Failing sending email. Debug mode - Line: 1784, File: index.php".

Drizzt

EDIT: I have checked my PM box and it seems that some of my attempts to PM to you have been successful despite the errors messages (I have 3 f them in sentbox and 2 in the outbox). Anyway I don't know if you will receive them.

01 Jan 16 - 31 Dec 16 - 7.7TB of data from CCS.

01 Jan 17 - 09 Mar 17 - 1.63TB of data from CCS.

This counts all traffic. Its mostly mod downloads, web traffic is probably 1% of that.
