Established in 2004 by Shaun Wallace and Chris Bean, CSO Simtek has been working with various organizations on developing and modifying simulators. Of particular interest to us, they have been developing Close Combat to new levels. CC Marines, CC RAF Regt and CC6 are just some of thier projects. Simtek's team is primarily consists of members from our own community. Beta testers are particularly in demand right now.

Their work with Close Combat Marines started in 2004. The US Government awarded CSO Simtek 2 contracts to develop CCM into a training aid suitable for the USMC's purposes. Here what some Marines had to say about it. In 2005, Simtek was contracted to develop a "new version" of CCM called Close Combat RAF Regiment. In March of 2006 the final product was delivered. A total of 9 work stations were set up at RAF Honington with CCRAFRegt installed. This RAF Regt provides ground protection to air assets if case you were wondering. Currently, Simtek is working with Destineer Studios and Matrix Games to re-release Close Combat 2 through 5. They are also working with Destineer Studios on Close Combat 6.

The re-release of CC3 is their most active project. This project is going to have many new changes from the original. Some of which include increased compatibility with the newer versions of Windows. Other major changes include new maps, operations and the integration of a new plugin manager. A notable feature about the plugin manager is that a failed install of a plugin will not corrupt your current installation. Converting all the current CC3 mods to be compatible is also in the works.

  • There are a number of ways to help out and be a part of developing Close Combat. Simtek has been very vocal about their need for beta testers. They are offering a chance to the community to have their own maps inserted into the new version of CC3. Specifically, 3 to 4 Eastern Front maps (minimum)of the same style. With or without a scenario attached. CSO_Beeblebrox has a full set of requirements to read. Good luck to anyone who enters, this is a great chance for community involvement. Secondly, people are needed to play 10 player CCM/CCRAFRegt games on large scale (4km x 4km) maps. To register for the latter you must read, sign and fax a nondisclosure agreement. Further to that, you require a broadband connection, and very flexible schedule. Teamspeak is also an asset but not a requirement. Once signed up you will receive a copy of CCRAFRegt to test with!
