|
|
Ok, im running XP, i thought to myself ill go retro and play CC5, i forget that the game doesnt run properly, its soooo slow and choppy, i drag units to move them in battle deployment, and its just like a constant lag. i dont get it, i turn off direct draw to run CC3 and that is fine. its so annoying and theres no topics on these forums for such a problem. and dont say run it in compatability mode because thats shite, it doesnt cure my problem. any help would be greatly appreciated! |

one thing, this tool works granted, but, theres still a very slight delay on dragging units, when in all fairness it should be smooth, i mean im not running a shit machine atall, 7800GS 3.0ghz, 1 gb ram, and, a game made in 2001 is causing slight problems, it doesnt make sense |

Hey guys,
I'm having the exact same problem as James and I tried using the CC starter utility. It doesn't help at all. It's just as choppy and if I try using the Windows 98 compatibility option, the game won't even start. HELP !!! I'm running Windows XP on an Intel Core 2 Duo with Crossefire enabled ATI 1900CF and 1900XT. I have tried disabling crossefire and it didn't change anything. I have a widescreen format monitor and have tried running at different resolutions, that too didn't help. I'm willing to try anything you can suggest.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmm...I doubt that the graphics card is the problem. I'm running the game on a Geforce 8600GT without any problems. The multiple cores might be the problem...have you tried disabling the cores and using a a CPU slowdown program? |

I have tried using a CPU slowdown program, I think it was called abandonware loader or something like that. Didn't make a difference. As for disabling the core, how do I do that ? |

Guys, I'm so excited, I finally got it to work. For all those frustrated people out there with the same problem (caused by a dual core processor) download the following hotfix from Microsoft. It fixed the problem and now the game runs smooth like a baby's bare bottom. http://support.microsoft.com//kb/896256 |

I just bought CCV recently (nearly 8 years late) to finish my Close Combat collection. It didn't work when I installed it, but fortunately one of the fixes I found on the board today got it running.
Than I had the same problem addressed by this thread immediately upon trying to play a game. I used the fix neoflash suggested.
It worked and I played a game fine, no sweat...
Then I turned off the game and went to dinner, a wrestling match, came home, watched a movie...
Decided I wanted to play a little CC before I went to sleep.
Same problem as before. Incredibly choppy gameplay. I tried re-installing the Microsoft fix, but it says it's already installed, and it is, and the problem persists...
Starting in Compatibility Mode does nothing since I cannot even start the game. It never actually starts.
Any thoughts?
I haven't applied the 5.01 patch. Would that help?
This is so irksome. I finally get it to work after having it 10 days, and then choppy gameplay, fix that, and now it's back to choppy. >_< |

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Direct Draw and how do I turn it off?
I've heard it mentioned a few times around here, but I don't get what it does.
Earlier in this thread someone posted a picture with a little applet that you could use to turn off direct draw, but the link for the download is dead.
Addendum: And when I install the 5.01a patch, I get the "No CD" error. What does the patch do, anyway? Can I live without it if I don't intend to play online games? |

You're using WinXp?
Start > Run > type "dxdiag"
Then choose the display applet...you can disable direct draw from there.
The CC Starter Utility will do this for you automatically.
It was hosted at CSO...and since CSO is in shamles lately...maybe Shrecken has an updated link to the file. |

Well that didn't work....
But....
So, I shut my computer down every night and when I woke up I turned it back on and, out of curiosity, decided to see if CCV was still running choppy. And it wasn't...
But it seems as if once I play a game and shut off the program, if I come back, the choppiness returns. Disabling Direct Draw didn't work...
I have no manner of luck at all with computers. |
