PostPosted: Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:09 am Post subject: Which CC - Help Please... Reply with quote

I just thought I'd throw out a quick question to the community...

I'm trying to figure out which CC might be the right one for me. I'm stuck in Iraq with my laptop, and I'm looking for a game that can be played for short stints at a time (30-60 minutes) and won't take long to ramp up on. I don't have enough time to dedicate long hours just to get to the point of playability. I'm just looking for an occasional diversion, that I can run on my Dell Latitude D820 (2GB), so if you have comments/suggestions please let me know.

If it matters, my video adapter is an NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M. I have no idea if that's a decent one, or not...

Also, I may not have access to the Internet again for a day or two, so if I don't respond right away please don't let that stop you from making suggestions!

Thanks a lot!

I would suggest CC5. All of them work very similair so once you learn any of them you can transfer your skills to the next.

Which versions do you have available to you?

I imagine all versions are available to me... I leave in about 4 hours, so I was planning to buy online and have the media shipped to me.

Thanks for the feedback!

CC1 was released in 1996 and CC5 in Dec 2000. CC 1 - CC5 might be hardd to come by.

CC Modern tactics was releasd recently. it canm be purchased from Matrix Games. You buy by download and or order the CD as well.

It has a replay feature that only CC1 had and the others do not. You can watch a repay of the battle and step in at any time.

In a number of subtle ways it better than the others.

Go for CC5 if you can mate, I have no idea about CCMT, but I did purchase COI, which wasn't a bad game and a bit of a nostalga trip for me as it was one I used to play a lot as CC3.......but I doubt it would have the same appeal to a newcomer, and the AI is a poor opponent even with its improvements.

If you are playing singles, my advice would be to go for CC5 and download here either SOC or Der Kessel Mods by panzerjager, both outperform COI hands down for single play.
Note:- Play both of these as German side.

Cheers

the thing is:

if you want a strategy layer aswell go for CC4 + CC5

if single battles are ok for you take COI or CCMT or CC1-3

Personally i think, without the Strategic layer, the game is less motivating...

CCV is the way to go. CCMT loses its appeal after about an hour or two of playing.

CC5 it is! I really appreciate all of the feedback you guys have given me. I just got in to Baghdad a few hours ago, so I think I'll leave the actual search and purchase for tomorrow. Wink

Cheers!
