Help me technical wizards, please.

I just got a lovely acer 19inch TFT widescreen, (desktop 1440 x 900) on the recocmendationof a friend.

He has CC5 and it runs in 1440 x 900 fine.

On my PC in CC5 i dont get the option for that resolution! How can i make it happen#?

I have win XP (as does he), the latest new Nvidia drivers (series 8 forceware) as does he, and i have an FX5700 (he has 6800) any ideas anyone?

I quite sure that you run the game in win98 comopatibility mode! This mode cripples the range of selectable resolutions.

max screens sizes usually come from a combination of screen size and graphic card.
seems like u may not get the other option size, until u upgrade to ur friends graphic card
try in 16bit colour to see if u get size option

Thanks Schimpf, you were right.... I turned off compatability mode and i can choose 1440 x 900

The problem now is that it runs weird in dragging around the screen area, or moving via the mini map. Confused

Any suggestions?

Don't forget to install the dual-core patch for WinXP...as most procs these days are dual core.
This helps with multi-core compatibility issues of older software/apps.

Hi All ;p I'm new here and have WAR on order. Have been watching boards for compatibility issues. Will be running quite similar to Tippi-Simo but am hoping the 03/06/09 patch will take care of me.

squadleader_id - What dual-core patch for WinXP are you referring to? Is this a CC patch or a Microsoft patch?

Many thanks for all I've learned here so far!

Microsoft patch.
If you're running AMD procs...there's a patch from AMD too.

You mean this?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256

Code:
Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance

How's the weather in East Java? What's the fastest internet connection you can get there?

Hey, Korinn...still rainy over here.
Fastest internet connection? Broadband is available but pricey...so most stick to cheaper HSDPA Smile

Thanks a lot!

I had to edit the registry, as stated on the page (value = 0), but now I can finally use my monitor to the max and play 1920 x 1200 without extreme lag. The patch is included in SP3 believe, but you have to manually activate it, by adding the registry value.

Mmm, it doesn't work anymore. Seems i got restart windows to get it to work, after that it lags again. I'm trying multicore cpu affinity utilities now.

Are you running intel or AMD?
For AMD...you need to install the AMD X2 drivers/hotfix.

I may have found a solution to the lagging on high resolutions on the dutch Microsoft website. (http://www.microsoft.com/netherlands/ondernemers/techniek/dualcore.aspx)

Edit boot.ini in the root of your C: drive (file is hidden, show hidden files).

Find the line:
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

put: /usepmtimer at the end of that line.

save, reboot

This tells windows to use synchronize the clock times of both cpu's or something like that. I read on the internet it's only supposed to work for AMD cpu's, but it seems to work for me. I can play 1920x1200 now on most maps of SDK with no lag whatsoever, on some maps the game uses 1280x1024 for some reason (map too small?). I use Windows2000 compatibility mode on the cc5.exe.

I don't know whether this affects performance negatively of apps/other games, but I'm happy for the moment! Smile
