I get the error message:

Unable to start the application--Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded.

And then a message in Swedish which would translate to:
Class not registered.

I have Windows XP and I installed the Microsoft JVM during the installation of CoI. But it seems somehow that the JVM was never installed properly.

I would be grateful for any help.

/Mattias

I have tried that. To reinstall it, but it doesn't help.

Thanks for your effort anyway. I'm wondering if there's an environment variable missing on my computer so that the JVM doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

The "Class not Registered" indicates that the JVM has not installed, or if it did, is broken for some reason.  Unfortunately, Microsoft dropped support for it long ago, and that could make things a bit tricky.  Searching the MS Knowledge Base hasn't turned up anything useful so far either.

So it's a bit like groping around in the dark.  Maybe check your Security/Policy?  Perhaps something prevented the JVM installer from doing it's job (it updates the Registry for example), or is preventing it form functioning if it did install ok.  If you look in the Internet Properties for IE ('Advanced'), you should see some entries for the Virtual machine.  A couple related to logging, but there is one for 'JIT Compiler...' which is ticked in my settings.

I suppose the first step is to try and identify whether the JVM installed at all.  I looked in the Registry and found these Keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Java VM

I have no idea what the implication of these entries are, but if that Key is not there, I guess it conforms that the JVM did not install at all.

Another Key is : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Java VM which just seems to be where the Advanced Settings for IE are stored.

Other Keys found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\JAVA_VM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\SOIEAK\JAVAPER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Eventlog\Application
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Eventlog\Application\Java VM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\Eventlog\Application
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\Eventlog\Application\Java VM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\Java VM
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1060284298-436374069-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\Java VM

Don't you just love Microsoft!  No idea whether these are all the entries or what significance they have either...

I have not seen any problems with installing the MS JVM before.  It even installs on my Win7 PC despite 'incompatibility' warnings.

Regrettably, is you can't get the MS JVM to work, then you will not be able to use MMCCIII  Crying or Very sad

Post back if you want, and we can try to help, though it is more likely just to be moral support...  Good luck!

I have the same problem. I tried to install the last versions, then older versions, then tried to give them admin rights, also I tried to run in compatibility mode, but it still doesn't work. When I tried to run older versions with admin and compatibility mode, I get an error which says the setup can only upgrade from an existing version of JVM, and with other installers it says that W95Inf32 failed to launch or something like that.
I have also searched the registry and have found Java Runtime Environment in the Java folder, but nothing related to Java in the Microsoft folder.

I have also read something interesting on the web related to this:
"I realize that Microsoft no longer supports the old Microsoft Java VM.  That's what I asked the question "Is Microsoft disabling Microsoft JVM via windows update?"  I wouldn't have asked the question if I didn't know that Microsoft stopped supporting it.

But I have a really expensive product that uses the old Microsoft VM, and I have the installer still, and I have it installed on my computer and others.  And when automatic updates pushes IE8 down, the VM gets killed: not uninstalled, but it just ceases to work.

I have found that downgrading to IE6 and then back up to IE8 will resolve the issue.  But my question is: "Is Microsoft disabling Microsoft JVM via windows update?"

Are you tacitly admitting that MS is disabling it when you say "microsoft hasnt had their own version for a really long time now"?

And yes, I'm using XP. " - from here.
