I am an old wargamer, of the Avalon Hill board games generation, who has very recently become familiar with CC series and instantaneously fallen in love with the game. Simply superb.
Most enjoyable, playable and, above all, realistic. In this respect however, I have found two shortcomings that, in my opinion, should be fixed, thereby adding to the game a new dimension of realism that it now lacks.
1) Infantry units cannot be transported in vehicles. Whether inside of half-tacks or in the hull of tanks, infantry should be able to embark/disembark in/from vehicles when desired. I guess that this should not pose a major difficulty. For example, two more options: embark/disembark, could be added to the Basic Orders panel and the infantry unit in question could be put in /taken out of a vehicle upon request.
2) Towing guns. Why cannot AT guns and howitzers be towed by half-tracks or other adequate vehicles???? This would provide these units with a mobility that they now, unrealistically, lack.
I ignore if there are patches already available to fix these flaws. If so, I would be extremely grateful if someone could tell me where are they available.
If not, I take this opportunity to strongly encourage those of you with sufficcient computer/programing skills, I myself lack these, to tackle the problem and to make a great contribution to the Close Combat community.
I agree that would make the game a lot better,There all so should be a couple of "BIG" maps added about double the size of a normal map and one more platoon for these big maps.
cheers
I do like your suggestions, but you my friend are in for a big surprise when you play the game online.
It is very unstable, worst game of the series due to the amount of bugs in it.
Sure it has a ton of mods to choose from.
But even the mod makers cant fix the internal bugs.
Should you dare to continue the game CCIV is much more stable, but not many people play it.
Go figure
I think the reasons for not liking CCIV are ......... not being able to choose all tanks,or all the great schock troops.
While CCIV does have a force pool it dosent allow you to choose your troops.
The things you mentioned to be fixed aren't modable for CC5 I don't believe.
Mountable/dismountable infantry is something that would need be addressed in the game code which the CC5 makers refuse to release.
You can find dismountable infantry feature in Close Combat games like Road to Baghdad and Close Combat Marines. Unfortunatly both of those games are rediculously bugged and not very playable by the typical CC series veteran.
Towable artillay and AT guns. I'm not much of a modder so can't say wether or not it's possible. I don't think so though.
The idea of having huge maps with more than 15 unit slots available doesn't work. We can make huge maps, but are always stuck with 15 units max.
It get's to the point where the maps are just too big for this games limit of 15 units.
I really wish the map makers would quit thinking that bigger is better and create some really nice small and medium sized maps.
What people used to think were large maps in CC5 are realatively small compared to many of the maps available today. Maps have only gotten bigger and bigger.

Forget words, actions will show your true ambitions! The Battlefield,In many cases, the terrain of a battlefield can be the best resource a commander has. A clump of trees, an abandoned house, or a drainage ditch can all be powerful tools in the right hands
Well!, my suggestions for CCV are applicable to all games in the series, I guess. I believe that mountable/dismountable infantry and towable guns would be a great addition to every single game from II to V.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
