The
57mm gun was to provide Allied infantry with a much-needed anti-tank weapon.
Past implementations of AT guns had actually forced the heavily mechanized
German army to rethink its breaching tactics. But the 57mm gun proved to
be ineffective against Panther and Tiger tanks. The armor piercing rounds
merely bounced off their frontal armor.
While
not the tank busters they were hoped to be, the 57mm gun can still deal
a devastating blow to light and medium tanks. Also used in close quarters,
this gun proves to be a very capable weapon. What it lacks in penetrating
power it makes up for with volume of fire, pounding out a 3-to-1 advantage
over most tanks. Be sure to keep these guns well concealed. Once tanks or
probing infantry teams spot your AT guns they become very susceptible to
enemy fire. Keep in mind that this is the one Allied AT gun that can be
placed in a building. Also, deploying a command crew near by will increase
the effectiveness of this unit.
In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
