Forum: Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy Posted: Mon Sep 03, 2007 1:06 pm Subject: Why is the total realism mod so unrealistic? |
I am just curious as to why the total realism mod is called such as I find it very unrealistic. In terms of the newly created trsm campaign why on earth does the 10th SS appear at the merville batteries to counter-attack on the 7th when it historically didnt arrive along with the 9th until around the time of Epsom. Similarly why does the 5th guards Armoured Brigade appear on the beaches so early when it arrived late June? Even more baffling is that in spite of these units arriving so early, the 51st Highland Division arrives several days late even thought it started disembarking on June 7th. Similar thing for the 2nd Panzer Division. For some reason Ost units have MG34's yet the actual German coastal units only have French MG's. Why give your Ost Mg 34's and not your actual German troops? Then we have Shermans that are in the Airborne BG's on the first day of the campaign. I assume a hamilcar can carry them or maybe they were para dropped in. Why is there a para section comprised entirely of SMG's, have they turned into the russians all of a sudden? Shermans also seem impenetrable unless you hit them side on, even if its a 7.62 captured russian gun firing at them. The list could go on and on. I can understand modding a game to your preferences, but why call it a total realism mod when it is anything but? |

Although the naval barrages will knock out guns, if the naval barrages are used on the first half of the day then they cant b used in the second half. If you pull back from the beaches asap it gives the allies a free hand to move from the map. Holding them back at the risk of high casulaties is worth the risk in my opinion while you grind down the airborne. You can still get some good exchange rates as shown with the loss of 7 shermans to 2 guns. |

Thanks, tried that one and still no luck. I have found a way to play the uta mods tho, i copied the original cc5 shortcut in the program files folder and pasted it after installing the mods. I can play the original, d-day, and utah perfectly now. However although stalingrad and the others play, the map on the grad campaign is wrong with the utah map positions ove rthe new map. Any more suggestions? |

Forum: Tech Support Posted: Fri Jul 27, 2007 3:10 pm Subject: A strange new problem with plugin manager, can anybody help? |
I have never had a problem with installing mods in the past. I had Utah 1.3, D-Day Utah, SAS, Omaha, GJS, Meuse, Okinawa, Star Wars, Khalkin-Gol, Winter War, Kareila 2, Stalingrad, Stalingrad der Kessel, Battle of Berlin, Afrika, Alamein, Battle of the Bulge, and a Bridge Too Far all successfully installed on my computer in plugin manager and not a problem with one of them.
The other day while using plugin manager my computer crashed, not because of plugin manager, but because of another programme I was using at the time. When I went back to using plugin manager after I found that I could not use certain mods. Whenever I try to use original CCV Utah, Utah 1.3, D-Day Utah, Stalingrad, or the new Ebro mod, it says that it can't find the disc. However when GJS and alike are installed it works fine.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both CCV and the 5.01a patch but to no success. I then tried deleting and then creating a new plugin manager. Again no sucess. In desperation I tried uninstalling CCV and 5.01a patch, deleting and creating a new plugin manager and then deleting all maps in my map file and pasting them from their download files. Again no success.
Does anybody have any suggestions for what may be the problem? I am completely stumped and any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I must admit I am a complete virgin when it comes to modding a game. But I have quite a good knowledge of the North African campaign from start to finish, so if anybody does want to create a submod as Oddball says, please give me a call if you need some historical data or anything like that.
Again thanks for those years of effort Oddball. (So much better than the El Alamein mod.) |

Forum: CC5 Afrika 40'41 Posted: Mon Feb 05, 2007 11:37 pm Subject: Recommendations for improvement. |
Well done on getting this mod working. A hell of alot of effort has obviously been put into this mod. Me and BlackSn have had several bitter battles for Fort Capuzzo already. However I do see several areas where things could be changed for the better, though these are in no way complaints, just areas which I think could be improved on for later versions.
1st RTR can't retreat from Habtat, nor can teh Italians advance from that map if they destroy 1st RTR.
The 1st Kings Dragoon Guards didnt arrive in North Africa till 41 as the divisional Reconnissance for 2nd Armoured Division. You could convert this Bg into 2nd Rifle Brigade to give the 7th Armoured Some Infantry like they had historically. Selby force could also be scrapped to create 1st Kings Royal Rifel Corps, the second motor battalion of 7th Armoured, again giving the division infantry it historically had.
The British BG's are very short on weapons. Historically they formed into Jock Columns, all arm columns with light tanks, a company of riflemen, a battery of artillery, and harrassed the enemy. Although still keeping the name of the parent unit for teh BG, a wider dispersal of arms would make battles easier for the British but also more historically accurate.
The British standard rifle of the time was the MK.3 Lee-Enfield. The No.4 wasn't issued till 1943 mainly to the assault units of Normandy and slowly filtered through to the rest of the army.
There is a AT gun in the British BG's called the 37mm. As far as I am aware the only time that the British had 37mm guns was on the Stuart and Grant tanks from the US. The picture for the gun in the BG is what looks like a 3.7inch AA gun but im not sure. The gun itself has the firepower of a US or German 37mm.
One of my tank crews was popping away at a Italian gun several hundred metres away with his pistol. So maybe tweaking with range needs to be done.
British pioneers have flamethrowers.
British and Italian mortars seem to be extremely ineffective.
The LRDG didn't have Jeeps till 1941.
Sten Guns were not issued in North Africa till late 1942 at the very least.
Garand Rifles were not issued to British regular troops during the war. I am not sure that they had even reached US units in 1940. Certainly not in large numbers if they had.
Am I right in assuming that Valentines, Stuarts, Humbers, Daimlers and the other vehicles that were not around in 1940, have been added Bg's so as to give wider variety when creating your own battles in the scenario maker?
Again great mod, thanks for those years of effort. |

Very interesting. I agree with you though that the course of the war still wouldn't have been changed. |
