I’ve learned a lot since posting this question and I must warn you, unless you’re looking to play single battles only these mods will not work. Even custom created scenarios or campaigns will not work!!

Ashau is a Vietnam based mod. All of the single battles work but I’ve not been able to make a campaign work. 3 of the maps are not connected to the rest of the strat map but even once you get past that the game will just freeze up at some random point.

RTC (Road to Crimea) is a fictional NATO vs Russia. I have spent countless days editing weapons, soldiers, teams, vehicles. So much was off on these files. Finally got it to a playable point and about halfway through a created campaign it crashed to desktop and continues to do so every time I play it. All single battles work but like I said every vehicle and all AT teams needed to be edited

38 Yankee is a modern N. Korea vs USA mod that I was really excited about, unfortunately only about half the battles will load without getting an error message and exiting the game

Arab vs Israel mod.....see N. Korea mod

1946 mod.... (GTC only or strat map will be off) see RTC

I just wanted you to know what you’re in for if you are looking to enjoy these games it may not happen. Don’t mean to piss on your parade. Apparently no one else is concerned as I’ve asked many a question and rarely ever get an answer.

Me personally, I’ve had more than my fill of WW2 theater close combat but I guess I’m alone in that. Ive done all I can do to the extent of my limited knowledge with ALL MODS for PITF or GTC. My hope is that you know more than me and take fixing these mods as a challenge. Literally everything is right there. The whole core of the mod is in tact but something is off on every single one of them.

I have been playing Road To Crimea mod and noticed the Russian tanks and AT have nothing but HE rounds. I have the PITF Workbook and excel programs and have edited a few lines of data already but am unable to find ammo types or quantities. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

1946 worked well for me for a while but about halfway through campaign it too had the issues mentioned above. I’ve had more luck using these mods in PITF than GTC. Single battles should work fine but not single player campaigns.

I don’t think single player campaigns are too popular so not many players are even aware of these issues. Reforger is an awesome mod though even against AI

I agree it would be worth fixing and I would be willing to chip in some money to anyone that could find a fix

So there are several mods available for GTC..

A-Shau (Vietnam)
Just Cause (Panama)
Reforger (Fulda Gap)
IDF (Israel/arab)
1946
38 Yankee (mordern day N. Korea) not fully complete from my understanding

Most of these mods were done by Bel8910. Not sure if he still posts here but he does absolutely great work. I appreciate all the time he’s put in to this and I mean no disrespect at all.

Individually all mods work if you are playing a single battle but when I try to play a single player campaign whether provided with mod or created campaign the game will always crash. Typically when time runs out or when AI moral gets too low the game always freezes up and says loading just as it’s abiut to switch to the results screen.

1946 mod will just freeze mid game.

It’s such a shame cause the WW2 theme for me is just no longer as appealing.
Has anyone else experienced these issues? The complete core of the game is intact and maybe one of the board geniuses can take this up and hopefully provide an easy fix.

SUCCESS!!!! Well aside from the main screen being a bit off and some kralea 2 battle group icons mixed with Star Wars icons, and uniforms look off but it plays great and all units and maps are utilized which is exactly what I wanted.

I am probably going to redo the whole thing over again and it should go a lot smoother second time around. I think I swapped a few too many scrngdg files then I needed to.

Once again I thank you for your guidance and helping me achieve something I’ve wanted to do for years now. If you are ever in the New York/New Jersey area dinner is on me my friend

Well I have it partially correct... everything looks like it worked but when I go to scenario editor the stratmap for kralea 2 is there and all maps but only 11 maps can be selected (just like the Star Wars strat) and it gives me same stupid error when I select all 11 maps (all roads must be connected)

I’ve been playing CC titles since CC2 and I’m just sick of the WW2 theater, Star Wars mod seemed pretty cool but the strat map sucks and you can’t even edit the campaigns provided. (All roads must be connected)

I’ve done everything correctly I believe but there has to be more to it or maybe the exe needs editing. I have learned a lot through this little experience and I want to thank you for getting me this far but I’d really like to get this fully sorted out

Not sure what tool I need to open a pix file.... BTW I am no longer using the original strat and maps, I am now using Kralea 2 strat and maps.

When I repack it makes a new gadg file called newgdg... I must then rename to scrngdg correct?

I just noticed there are files DESTRSTMAP00-43.... I guess I need to swap out those also? I just wonder how many other files I need to swap that I don’t know about.

I appreciate the input. The original post is in CC5 forum. Information I was given was pretty vague and I did what I could with the information I had but I knew there was more to it than that.

Would you happen to know of a more detailed way to accomplish what I’m looking to do? I am basically looking to create my own grand campaigns using the Star Wars units with kralea 2 strat and maps. Thanks again

Sorry to put this CC5 question here but I’m looking for as much help as I can get. I am trying to use Kralea 2 maps and strat map with CC5 Star Wars mod....


Ok so I just unpacked Star Wars scrngadg and kralea 2 scrngadg. Swapped anything relevant (or so I thought) from kralea 2 to Star Wars. Repacked and created newgdg file. I then compared the new gdg to the kralea scrngdg and it looks like they match. I then put it back into the unzipped Star Wars folder along with index.mpi and convert back to a plug-in.....install the new Star Wars mod with config manager and start game, go to create scenario and strat map looks exactly the same. There are 11 battles made for the mod and I can see my maps are there but if I go to create scenario it looks exactly like the Star Wars mod strat map. There must be something I’m missing here

Finally getting the time to take a shot at this. Going well except the map index part, I don’t see that file in maps. I checked other mod map packs also and see none in them either. I do see an index.mpi but that’s in my original game folder. Again thanks for your help and hopefully with not much more time I’ll have it up and running

Thanks for your response...most are plugins, how do I get the files to be able to edit?
I would then want to save and remake a plug-in with changes? I’ve never done this and feel it might be beyond my understanding at this point, I’m sure I’d have tons of questions.

I posted this in another title but wanted to drop this here also because I want to see what others think and if they are having the same issues.....


I really don’t want to offend anyone cause I know how much time and effort is put into making these mods but I have not had any success play any of the mods for either GTC or PITF on any platform and multiple OS.

I know there is a tremendous amount of effort put in but honestly I have never played a full campaign for any mod and made it all the way through with issues that keep you from proceeding any further in the campaign (RTC, A Shau, 1946, Reforger, IDF, Just Cause, N Yankee) whether created by me or the developer.

I really feel like matrix intentionally did something to (exe perhaps) this game cause I’ve been playing CC MODS since CC3 and never had any problems.

I really feel like the series died after CC5 and I wish more time was spent making more mods for it instead of the matrix titles.

How are you guys playing these mods? Multi, single battles, campaigns?

Have been seeing a lot of this lately. Anyone know what this is referring to and how I might fix it. Usually happens when I assign orders to a unit before beginning of action.

Well the enjoyment was very short lived. I am not complaining but current state for GTC MODS is not good

Blood mod= works great... not too many changes done so that’s probably the reason

NATO vs Russia (Road to Crimea)= works great. I altered some tank values and runs flawlessly.

A Shau Valley= Freezes at the end of battle and “Loading” remains frozen on screen. Never makes it to results screen.

1946= freezes at random points of the game and gives me a “Close Combat Engine Executable” crash.

Reforger= same as 1946 and also freezes at end like A Shau

Just Cause= same as 1946

IDF= same as 1946

38 Yankee (N. Korea)= String Ref 19604 not found on multiple Korean vehicles

PITF for GTC= works great

I only play created single player campaigns.

I don’t understand why the Road to Crimea mod is the only one that will work. I have tried all of these mods on 3 different computers with the same results. Win 10 desktop, XP desktop and win 10 laptop on every compatibility setting and any other settings.

I have been playing and modding since CC2 and though I don’t consider myself an expert modder I have never had the problems I am having with GTC.

Was this intentional on Matrix part? Did they intentionally make it near impossible to mod? Is anyone else playing or experiencing same issues?

I’m just an average guy with a wife and family and not much time on my hands so in my free time I really get consumed in this game. Unfortunately lately it’s brought more misery than fun
