Could be I'm just a bit tetchy from having one and a half wisdom teeth taken out yesterday in a botched dental procedure, with surgery to look forward to for the other one and a half.
It's probably the pain killers talking. Ignore me. |

Have you made new custom maps for your Operation Market Garden mod?
Interesting...I ran into a website about the start of a CC5 Market Garden mod...I don't think this was Buck Compton's website. Could this be yours?
|
Nope, not me. If you look closely on that site, you'll realise they haven't made an entry in about five years. I'm fairly sure it's dead. |

Yeah! The new head images look great in the game! All mods should incorporate these new head images...great work and great idea.
Here's a screenshot of them in BoS45.

Man, that was quick. |

Yup, redesigned the whole thing from scratch about five years ago for my first (unfinished) mod attempt - Warhammer 40k. I notice that somebody else has done that one. Then started on a Vietnam - Tet Offensive mod, but realised you couldn't cover the whole campaign using CC5 as it just wouldn't have given it justice - that one's on the back burner for now until I research enough to pick a good battle to represent in the game.
As to photos vs pics for the teams; not sure as yet. I've been chatting with Buck Compton about joining forces on the Operation Market Garden mod, so we'll see what happens.
Here's some more pics.

Wow! Nice work on the main screen and stratmap!
I'm gonna try to use your cool headshots for my mod...nice artwork!

Thanks, squadleader. Just note that the 'backgrounds' on my screen are green and not grey, so the 'normal' & 'injured' heads might need the background colour changed so it doesn't look out of place. |

...and a downsized version of the campaign map, which is east-west for gameplay requirements (but the compass in the corner is meant to offset that little niggle).
NOTE:I had to distort the real map quite badly to get everything into the required space, so people may pick me out for the placement of some of the map areas - due to the sizing requirements, it was an unfortunate and inevitable issue. Also, the LZ/DZ placements may not be 100% accurate, as they were referenced from only two sources (which I can't recall). Most references only site 3 DZ each for the 101st and 82nd, but others suggest differently. I'll have to double check this info and change the map accordingly. Suggestions and criticism welcome. |

Well, since Buck Compton is also doing an Operation Market Garden mod, I'd better start arguing my case for being a worthwhile team member. So, firstly I'll start releasing some of the images I've done to date.
P.S. I invite anyone to use these team head images, as the original ones are ugly as sin.
Normal (green head)
Injured (yellow head)
Incapacitated (orange head)
Dead (red head)
Panicked (panic head)
Surrendered (white head)
I find these easier to reference in battle, and they just look better besides. |

Just found another great battlegroup reference site:

Incomplete, but fairly comprehensive listings of german orders of battle. |

In that case I will have to make one soldier for each:
eg. Bren gunner w/crewed weapon=Bren for LMG Team
Bren gunner w/primary weapon=Bren for Md Rifle Squad
The mod will field the usual array of support teams: LMG teams, mortar teams, etc. I am also having some support teams with more than one traditionally "crewed" weapon: eg, Bren Groups [consisting 3 men] have both a Bren Gun & a 2in. mortar. This is in accord with what I've been reading regarding unit make up. Most companies were also outfitted with "extra" support weapons to be divvied up between units as seen fit, so I am also having some rifle sections/squads armed with one or more support weapon - hence the original question about crewed weapons.
The mod I'm trying to do is a more accurate and aesthetic version of Operation Market Garden. |

In doing the mod I'm currently on, I've scoured the web for decent info, and have come across two great websites for accurate info about order of battle lists and the like. Thank god someone else has put in the research time on this, as it saved me a lot of hunting.
Orders of Battle @ http://www.ordersofbattle.com/OOBDefault.aspx
Battalion Organisation during the Second World War @ http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/index.htm
The website for the game Fire & Fury - Battlefront/WWII has also been well researched, but you do have to deal with the fact that the info has already been reworked for game purposes. |

From what I've read in Pzt_Kanov's post Suggestion to Modders about Soldiers equipment, it appears that I have to keep things as they are. Not only do I not want the squad leader ending up carrying the support weapon, but I intend to have more than one "crew" type weapon in some squads, and I'm thinking it would probably confuse the .exe if I did.
If anyone has hints and tips on this subject, don't hesitate in giving me advice.
thanks. |

Forum: Modding Workshop Posted: Sun Feb 17, 2008 2:17 am Subject: Crewed Weapons |
Hi all,
I'm working on a mod, and I thought I was near completion of the Soldiers.adb file until something occured to me:
I've been working under the assumption that if a weapon is in the Crewed Weapon slot that the game will consider all other members of that squad to be "crew members", and if the original carrier of the weapon shoud die, someone else will take over manning it.
I have some "crew type" weapons in infantry squads: Brens, BARs, .30cal MGs, 2in. mortars, etc. I want these weapons to be used as "personal" weapons; if the carrier dies, the weapon doesn't get picked up by another team member. As a result, I have created two different soldiers for each type of use; "crewed" or "personal". The problem this creates is that I am running out of index space in the Soldiers.adb file.
So, my question is this: Do I need to create two different soldiers for each use, or is this unnecessary? |
