At that point in time my map folder was (for reasons unknown) missing the .bgm files for each map - meaning that I couldn't play any maps. The reason I originally wanted an 'original map pack' was to gain access to those original files and thus access to the missing .bgm files. The original map files can be found for two other close combat games (Bridge too far and Battle of the Bulge) but not for CC5.

The issue is fixed now though, I managed to find a secondhand CD version of CC5 and I simply used the map files from the CD (as the CD didn't work, once again, for reasons unknown) to complete my map list..

Never mind!

How I fixed the error:
I copied the map files from my newly bought second hand CD and pasted them into my downloaded version of CC5 (with incomplete map files, it was missing the .bgm files for some reason).

The downloaded version of CC5 works fine with the full map files, but for some reason the CD version just won't work.
I suspect that it has something to do with the version of CC5 (even though I downloaded the necessary patch for the CD version).

Oh well, at least I can play the damn game now - after hours and hours of trial and error!  Very Happy

Hey guys.

I managed to find a secondhand copy of Close Combat 5 today in a tip shop for $3, what a score!

I have installed the game but I keep getting this "Can't access surface for lock" error.
I have consulted the 'error-guide' on your website and it informs me that my problem is apparently due to 'direct draw' being enabled. Through the wonderful application of CC Starter I managed to disable direct draw (a system check confirms that it is disabled) but I am still having the same error message pop up every time I attempt to play a battle.

Does anybody have an idea of how to fix this problem?  Confused

I noticed that on this site there are download links for the original maps from Close Combat II: A Bridge Too Far and also Close Combat 4: Battle of The Bulge, I was wondering if the original maps for Close Combat V: Invasion Normandy could also be uploaded - either individually or in an 'original map pack' .zip folder containing all the files?

PS: I'm having the same problem as Vader_Voivod

Mr. Voivod, if you could tell me where you downloaded the map files from, or how you fixed this issue, I would appreciate it greatly!

Hey guys,

I'm having the same error with CC5 (Invasion Normandy).
I can start the game but whenever I attempt to play a map - in either campaign, battle or boot camp - I get the same error code:

"Unable to continue play because the disk is full, please reinstall".

I know that it is probably due to some files missing from the 'maps folder' (according to the help section of this website). I have reinstalled the game many times in an attempt to remedy this issue but it hasn't solved the problem. I'm using a downloaded version of the game and I'm convinced that the version I have is incomplete.

If anyone has a download link to the original map files (in their entirety, and only the Original map files - no modded versions!) I would be a very happy man, as this would hopefully solve the problem (as the rest of the game appears to be working fine, I just can't use any maps..).
Alternatively, if anyone else has a solution to this problem do tell.

Please note: I have tried running it in compatibility mode, running it as administrator, I have installed the latest patch, I have downloaded + used CC starter and none of these have enabled me to actually play the game.

All I can find are modded map files, which are of no use to me as I want to play the original game.

Cheers.
