Hi Gary!

The mods are on CSO - the page was up earlier this week I believe.
I have modded CCMT a little bit - feel free to ask anything.
Text files: Edit in XL or other similar program, save the contents as text -tab de-limited? ( I am not sure what it is in English)

Many thanks SchnelleMeyer! What I REALLY would love to do is see if I can mod some of the vehicle graphics in the game, possibly add some new vehicles or something. Is there a good tutorial anywhere on how to do that?

Thanks again!

Doh! Sorry, I found the CCMT workbook here on the site under the "Tools" section (I was looking under the CCMT section). Now I just need to figure out how to use it.  Embarassed

I'm sort of getting an interest back in maybe playing this game after a long hiatus. I can't remember how to mod the game and I can't seem to find any of the old mods that used to be out for the CCMT. I tried to go to closecombat.org and the website appears to be down. Also the Matrix website that had most of the mods is also defunkt I believe. I looked in the scenario bank here but couldn't find much.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give on how I may mod the Blue and Red Teams files. I seem to recall that there was a workbook or something that had to be DL and used to edit the files. Does anyone happen to have a copy of it?

Thanks for any help!

Come on dood, Matrix is a business. Think of it as a restuarant. Some of the menu items are good and some of them are crap. If a repeat customer guesses wrong and always orders the crap off the menu, then they are not going to be customers for very long.

It really isn't a psycho drama or anything. Either Matrix stops feeding me crap, or I am going to be pissed. Its nothing personal, its business.

You have an excellent point.

Gary,

I am not trying to be argumentative, but I do think in the end, one needs to determine just what Matrix accomplished.

To what extent has CC been revived? I truely cannot say. If CC5 and CC4 do run well on W7, then just looking at the content of this site alone, one might argue that Matrix accomplished nada (or very little), for at least those titles. Maybe "disservice" is strong language, but 50 bucks for a CC remake is equally strong language.

True, there would not have been CCMT.

And perhaps CC2 and CC3 might not actually run well on W7. I haven't heard if they do or dont.

But I can remember being in the camp that just wanted the games patched (i.e. no new features).

But you can see Matrix went much further than all that, with new features, new e-book manuals, digital download and boxed versions, a web site so Matrix could post up add-on content, servers for mass multiplayer events, overly elaborate marketing pages in their product section, outiside Matrix marketing, and fake game reviews (they cost money too). They didn't have to do all that, but you see this is the type of stuff that makes a software war game cost a lot of money.

Gary, perhaps you have a built in bias for game producers in general, rather than a built in bias for game users/consumers.

So do I understand correctly that you are actually complaining that Matrix added new features and material to CC and made it easier to find opponents online? Other people are complaining about remakes and you are complaining that they added things? I guess Matrx can't win?

I suppose I do tend to sympathize with those who do the tedious work so that others can have fun and consume. I don't think anyone forced anyone to buy a remake of CC. You are perfectly free to not buy them. Did Matrix engage in false advertising saying they weren't remakes? Where is the "disservice" in all this?  Confused

Muhahahahaha - OF COURSE I TRIED

Look, I am even resorting to using the quote thingy. Feel free to ACTUALY respond to some of the fans. It looks like some of them have some legitimate concerns regarding Matrix's service to the community.

Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy REG CC5 on my wife's laptop, while you mull things over.  Idea

Maybe it's a "half empty" vs "half full" thing. You see deficiencies where I see human fallability and an honest and reasonable effort by Matrix to please their customers. I don't always get my wishes either as far as wargames go, but that's just sort of the way life works at times. Maybe I'm just a "sucker" or an "apologist" for a greedy corporation but I have never had a serious problem with Matrix that couldn't be agreeably addressed nor have I had such high expectations of games that those expectations have been utterly destroyed. I expect Matrix to charge a fair market price for their products and I expect that I will not always get exactly what I want out of the games they offer. I may state my own personal beefs about a product but I'm not going to say that Matrix has been a "disservice" because they didn't deliver exactly what I wanted.

I don't knoiw about Matrix being a "disservice" to the CC community. If Matrix hadn't picked up the series who would have come along and revived it otherwise? My hunch is that no one would have picked up the series if it weren't for Matrix. As far as price, as one person pointed out wargaming is a small market. Selling a game for $10 a pop isn't going to keep any company afloat. Any gaming company has to make some sort of profit in order to survive.

But I do agree that it has been a little discouraging to only have remakes so far.

Hi DAK_Legion,

Which vehicle set are you using. Is it RSR, CCMT, or something altogether different.  Question

If this is just going to be a redo of RSR, then just use its strat map, and be done with things chop chop. Otherwise, just wait for PitF.  Idea

You know, unless something really radical changes with these new CC games, I am thinking CCMT is my last game. A good ending point for the 2D stuff, IMHO.  Wink

The reason we are using LSA is because you can stack battlegroups in LSA which might be better for a hex based map. I'm not sure of the scale in RSR but this mod is using 1 battlegroup = 1 company and a hex based map. Those will probably be the key difference between this and most other mods.

Screen art - check!
Maps - check!
Vehicles - check!
Voices - check!
Data - check!

Ok, so please tell us if the Strat Map is finished.  Question

Strategic map still needs to be done. There's still a lot of screen art to do as well. But we're making progress.  Very Happy

OPFOR names, OPFOR voices and RSR maps sound good.

I've been using United Nations graphics for West, do you think NATO would be better?

Thanks.

Maps will probably be recycled. Unfortunately for us southern_land had to drop out of the mod for RL reasons. But it was for reason of good news for him so we wish him all the best.

If anyone out there is good with maps and wants to help create a modern combat mod we would welcome the assistance.

then decide the composition of battlegroups for make the forcepool!

The colour of the vehicles.........Green or Desert?

Probably green would be best. The maps will be European so there is more cover and tanks aren't shooting at each other from the edges of the map.

Hi DAK_Legion, you were inquiring about the organization of a company battlegroup? The picture below is, as best I can determine, what a US Army mechanized infantry company would look like in game terms. Each team would represent a single battlegroup team. The weapons of each team are also underneath each individual soldier.

Hope this helps.  Very Happy

That's true for the moment that I'm only playing to see if whats been edited works.
But until I experienced the GC Crash in WAR I was playing the AI quite regularly.
The Counter Offensive is a very nice Campaign to play.
Done several GC's (Until the point where the AI had no chance to win)

I hope once it's done and more Mods get properly converted I'll play more online.
But I never see anyone online.
Hence the reason I enlisted Salhexe to help me with the AI.

Currently were at
266 Weapons of different effectiveness
279 Soldiers with different specs
304 Allied Teams of varying degrees
292 Axis Teams of varying degrees

Yea it's had some bugs here and there but you can't find them if you don't play. :)

I voted for "I Play A lot"

What is "the" GC Crash? Is it a regular problem with WAR?

I haven't seen any real progress in importing mods to the re-releases yet.

Excellent question. Hadn't quite anticipated this. Basically the purpose of the question is to guage how popular CC is as a game as distinct from only how popular it is to mod it. I sometimes wonder how many people only fire up CC in order to mod something. Sometimes it is more fun to play around with graphics than it is to actually play the game.

I guess if you find yourself only playing as necessary to test something in your mod I wouldn't count it. For instance if you fire up the game to test a graphic and then end the game before completing a battle, only to see if the graphic works, then I wouldn't count it as "still playing". Otherwise, if you find yourself seriously playing through complete battles in your mod because you enjoy the game, then I would count it as "still playing".

Out of curiosity, how many people who visit CSO still play Close Combat (including original versions or any mods in existence)? By play I mean actually fire up the game and go through at least a battle or two or more. Simply messing around with graphics or modding doesn't count.
