Of course they didnt kill always prisoner, all depend the order they receved from the furher .... When the fuhrer said, no prisoner, we dont get the time for that like in Ardennes or in German ground or even in some russian campaign he called always the SS to do the job .. The regular German army never did that ... Remember and ask ppl around 80 years old who still alive now and ask them why they was so scared about SS or guestappo( who worked generally hand in hand) ....

In fact SS was made to be Furher bodyguard and after a year they be modified to be sort of country bodyguard

In Russia it usually was Feldengendarme, penalsquads and specialised wehrmacht troops responsible for attrocities like ethnic cleansing, raping and partisan search&destroy missions and so on, and hardly SS troops. And it wasn't just Hitler, but Allied generals as well that ordered "to take no prisoners". However as officers and gentlemen (and being very aware of the Genieva convention) they could not say "just shoot them" and had their subaltern officers interpret it as they see fit. You don't need to be Einstein to figure out what happend. It's just that the Germans got infamous for it, though all parties made themself guilty of killing POW's on equal level.

The SS (Schutz-Staffel) roughly translated as protection group was indeed formed out of the SA to protect leaders of the party. During the first years the SS was usually more used to beat the crap out of opposing parties during rallies and so on. But the SS did become country wide for awhile and eventually a military elite of the purest German Arians untill about 1943/1944 when the SS was forced to take none arian purebloods in their ranks to recover from their casualties of war.

During the times of occupation the Grune Polizei was responsible for daily razzia's, checking ID's and so on and were much more feared by civies then the Gestapo. The Gestapo was much more feared within military ranks, being sorta the political officers as were known in the Red Army. No German officer in his right mind would ever say he'd lost faith in Hitler if in the same room as a Gestapo officer. It would almost mean sudden death. Accused of being a traitor and defaitism, interrogation, torture and a firing squad. (if lucky that is)

The Celt-Iberians of Roman times were justly famed for their weapons, such as the Falcata (left), one of the most devastating swords every made. The inward curving blade delivered a tremendous blow and could split both shield and helmet. Considered to be of Greek, or possibly Etruscan origin, this sword spread into Southern Russia and also Spain. It was in Spanish hands that it was most feared by the Romans.

I want to know if i should down load it. It is one of my favorate theaters of war. But I am not sure that it will work in the close combat style. As it was on a much larger scale than close combat can allow for. With some many other factors involved.

Please note I am pretty drunk whle writeing this so I have not checked spelling or gramma.

Ahhh it was one of those nights huh?! Lol! Very Happy But it is worth downloading! You should at least give it a try to reward the hard work the modmaker had on it! After all, they give up their social life for us, so we can give up our social life for what they created! Wink

Can we expect to see it? Has anyone mentioned that the idea might sound intresting. I watched a show on the History Channel a few months agom, and an infantry soldier (American) said that for the first part of the war that our bazookas wouldn't penitrate the T-34/85's armour. He also said that in the beginign of the war the North Korean Army had more tanks.
It would be cool to see Close Combat taken to another war.
Just a thought. Idea

Yeah i saw that too, the CO of that soldier fired 20(!) rounds at that T34/85 and the bazooka rounds just bounced of the armor. Then the CO threw the bazooka away saying "Well, this obviously isn`t gonna work"

I`d like to see a Korea mod aswell. You could make one hell of a campaign. Fighting all the way up to North Korea, then bang, the Chinese knocks you all the way back again (or not) and you have to start over again, this time with better forces and supplies though. Nice!

I am not sure of this, but because yesterday was the first day of the release of the game, the server has been very very busy all day long....

Perhaps this is the reason why some files should have been corrupted while being downloaded...

Anyway, if some of you still have problems, d/l again the files. It will work. I can promise that my plugin has been tested extensively before the release, on 3 different computers, installing/desinsstalling a lot of mod in a row... It was boring, I can tell you!

Cheers

Hey PJ! The plug-in and the video worked after DL`ing em 3x. Map pack took 7 downloads though. Buy hey, in the end it all worked out and it`s all worth it. Thanks so much for keeping this game alive mate!

Let me draw the next techsupport number. Der Kessel plug-in, video and maps were downloaded without any problems. Then i wanted to unzip them. Error. I manually went to Winrar and tried to unzip, i get error message unexpected end of archive. Hmmm...downloaded it all again, same thing happend. Tried the repair function, Winrar succesfully repaired all 3 files. Then tried to install them..error, disk read error. WTH?! Downloading it again and hope for the next try. Anyone else had these problems?

Edit: Got it to work after DL`ing 3x. Thank god for my highspeed internet. Dunno what was wrong with the first 2 downloads though...And thanks for this new mod! I`m gonna burn the midnight oil now! Very Happy

It is an excellent game IMHO. I do like the fact that you can have veteran units (and lose them just the same if you dont pay attention) That reminded me of the good old days that i played Panzer General *sigh*. Did anyone else played Panzer General? I loved playing it! It was by SSI if i remember correctly.

Sure it has disadvantages, but they dont weigh up against all the pros. It`s like C&C but WW2 style and much much better on all fronts. Yes it`s arcade, yes it has basebuilding. But you do need strategy sometimes. Why wage a full frontalassault against a German base if you can build a forward fire base with a 105mm howitser battery and pound that base to rubble. Use reconplanes to scout flanking routes and find weakpoints etc etc.

@Squadleader_id
Apa kabar tuan?

Weapons data is also arcadish...eventhough soldiers can't hurt tanks without AT equipment like some RTS
If i remember correctly all the infantry squads in COH have the "throw sticky bomb" option. You dont need a Rangersquad or picked up Panzerschrecks or other AT equipment. It just takes a little longer hehe...

Here`s a link to a Dutch site, it covers, in short, the history of the Prinses Irene Brigade. If you dont want to translate it using babblefish or something, you might have some use for the pics posted there. The other site is in English aswell.

I will be visiting the Airborne Museum sometime in the next few months. i always visit warmuseums during wintertime. When i`m there i will keep a look out for any staffmaps or other geopgraphical stuff that can help you out. Meanwhile i suggest you use Google Earth, it should help you out a bit. Following links should provide you with some GPS coordinates to help you out.

And some other helpfull links aswell;

Information or actual accounts are on the net somewhere, it has to be. I mean these guys are fighting a war to, and naturally they will have stories to tell. They do have alot of non english websites, and they video tape alot to it seems. Theres no shortage of stories or tactic manuals from any NATO country online.

Yes and everytime Al Jazeera "magically" gets those tapes and shows them. You are right about all the NATO info, sadly it`s not only that info available, every one able to use Google can find out "how to build a homemade bomb in 3 easy steps".

Sure Internet is a gift and i can`t imagine living without it, but all that knowledge on the Net has a flipside aswell...[/quote]

big *LOL* @god4saken Razz

However you have a valid point. If a regular joe can find a message board where terrorist are exchanging tactics the CIA would have a much easier job hehe...

But hey, if you want to read something about the thoughts of a wanna-be terrorist check out the weblog of the president of Iran: http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/

Readable in French, Farsi, Arabic and English. Still, its the same bullsh*t, no matter what language you read it.

Have fun!

Seems to me if you order an airstrike damage is dealt at a certain amount of "terrain" random(?) around where you placed your smoke for an airstrike to be. (airstrikes sure as hell NEVER hit all the things i WANT to be hit *lol*)

Meaning that it is possible to call in an airstrike everywhere on the map, it will come, guns and bombs will do damage to the terrain. If enemy soldiers, tanks etc are on that spot of terrain it will kill or damage them. If not, just the terrain will be damaged. I think the same principle goes for arty and mortar support. Call it in and it will "target" an amount of terrain where it does damage, whether that terrain is occupied or not.

Hope you get my point, it`s always hard to explain something in a foreign language, even when it`s oh so clear in my native language.

just wondered if anyone has any valid info about it. As no report from Kursk i;ve read mentioned it.
All i remember it was a quote from a SS tankcommander who noticed it during a tankclash at or near Prochorovka.

Quote:
i DO know that most of german tanx were faster offroad (especially in summer time) than T-34. And they DID have greater crusing range than T-34.
Things chnged slightly in mid-late 1943 when T-34 got new gearbox. That allowed it to have pretty same offroad speed as PzIII/IV had.

If u take Tiger or Panther in particulary, Panther was faster and Tiger had same offroad speed as T-34 with old gearbox.

You dont have to believe me mate, just check the facts ok? Take a look here; http://www.onwar.com/tanks/index.htm

well, theoretically it is possible to damage tank that is of same or lesser weight than yers.
Practically that's virtually impossible to ram mobile tank.
Imo T-34 wouldnt really be able to do significant damage i.e. jam turret, immobilize PzVI as it was almost 2 times lighter. Plus most of germans tanx could avoid collision as they were faster offroad than T-34.

Btw do u have any sources that prove mass cases of ramming during the battle of Kursk? As i did't c any realiable proves but soviet propaganda

You forget the Tiger was most valuable stationary as a stable gunplatform taking out targets at long range. While moving it was usually protected by a wig of lighter tanks like PzKpfwIV`s driving in front and to the sides of the Tiger. I`m talking about ad hoc actions by individual tankers. i never said it was a massively used tactic now did i?

And you really didn`t just say that German tanks are faster offroad then a T34 now did you? You DO know why the Germans build the Panther right? Wink

i mean if they can ram tiger tanks and damage them and come out ok how come they can't take a shell.

urban legend.

Yes and no. During the battle of Kursk It is known that Russian tanks with useless guns or turrets due to battle damage or partially killed crew would ram german tanks in an effort to block the traverse of their turrets/barrel. This would give their comrades the momentum to get in close enough for the kill. But it was an ad-hoc tactic with damaged tanks and usually had no happy ending for the tank/crew that sacrified themselfs.
