PostForum: Modding Workshop   Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 6:38 pm   Subject: Uniforms.txt in CC tLD
Does anyone understand the data in Uniforms.txt in CC tLD?

Be most grateful of an explanation of how to change the colours of the uniforms as the default ones are a real backward step from most of the mods out there.

I've used the soldier colour editor for CC5 before but that isn't going to work with CC tLD is it?

Any help appreciated.

Experienced the same problem myself and posted this awhile ago. See this thread:

http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1434&highlight=

Got no solution but found an old copy of the patch hiding on my C drive.

Still not sure about the status of the US vs International version of the patch though pretty sure mine is the International version.

Also I reported the link being down at CSO but seems to be no change thus far. Can upload my copy to CCS if necessary.

I agree with gravyface. Not looking makes your game behaviour much different and makes it much harder.

The problem is with ai selection of units. Depending on how the adb files have been edited the ai can make some crazy choices, leaving a dozen of its finest infantry in reserve while sending in under strength squads and weak vehicles. This varies mod to mod but even in the fantastic Stalingrad mod the ai goes for 8 (!) tanks for Soviet tank brigades even to the exclusion of a command team for one platoon!

I was using QClone to make AI better and came across a problem in the data. In the soldiers.adb file on column 2 (index) the PTRD and PTRS both have index number 66 so there is no index number 67!

I've corrected this on mine though this doesn't seem to have caused any problems in game as it was though I thought it would have done?

Anyway thought you should know.

Could be any host of problems causing this but its almost certainly mod specific.

I haven't found this mod terribly reliable either and don't tend to use it much.

Chances are the problem is either misplaced or missing vls in the btd files. If you are using the original CC4 maps with this mod you could try some of the new maps available on this sight. Many are better than the originals anyway.

I believe tank pathing is a long running problem in CC and many modders have tried to fix it to little result.

Guess we just have to live with it. But then I suppose, in the heat of battle, guns sounding, smoke and noise, and the adrenalin rush such mistakes were made in real life. Add to that the difficulty tanks do have in crossing some terrain types and it isn't that unrealistic.

The only thing which can make it slightly better is modding the elements.adb file to make some terrain easier for tanks to traverse but then that can unbalance the game.

Only thing i can suggest is what I do - micromanage your tanks and if you see them doing something you weren't expecting tell them to stop and re-issue the order. Just try and keep your front to the enemy and hope they haven't got any special AP rounds left!

PS I wouldn't worry about the same problem with CC5, its specific to CC4, I think.

I would use the the unofficial CC5 patch anyway as it works well and addresses some minor bugs.

Be aware there are two patches for CC4. One for US and one for UK/International. I had the same problem as you running the patch from this site which i think is the US one but not sure.

Luckily I found the UK/International one that I had from an earlier install of CC4 and works fine now on mine.

Do you have a US version of the game?

Agreed, Real Red but with a strat map too!

I modded the sounds just using standard tools that, I think, are available on this site: the SFX Pack tool and the old CC3 Sound Hack tool. I used sounds I've scavenged from various other mods.

Just wanted to congratulate the Stalingrad team on a job very well done. This is quite possibly the best mod yet for CC5. Great balance, great accuracy, great atmosphere, beautiful graphics and the maps are sublime, truly evocative. It really makes you grateful that you weren't actually there!

I've changed the MG 34, heavy MG 34, Maxim and sniper rifle sounds on mine but other than that I couldn't fault it!

Great work, gentlemen, and well worth the wait.

I ran into a bunch of KV-1s at the southern train station but managed to dispatch them with relative ease with Mark IIIs and Mark IVs by getting in behind them at close range (100m or so). Maybe I was just lucky?

Be most grateful if anyone can tell me where I can get the CC4 Patch international/UK.

The patch on CCS won't work on my machine (is it the US patch?).

I've just reinstalled CC4 and I did used to have the patch but must have deleted it (d'oh!)

Any help much appreciated as searches have been fruitless and CSO link for the patch is down.

PostForum: Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy   Posted: Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:54 pm   Subject: BTD Editor Question
I'm using BTD editor and pack/unpack tools with XP with SP2 and both work fine as well as BG editor. Using Java Virtual Machine referred to in BG editor readme. Version of BG editor I have has the following readme:

"BGEdit
by Zeppo

Installation:
BGEdit requires no special install or uninstall program. Simply unzip the contents into a dedicated folder and launch the application BGEditIV (CC4) or BGEditV (CC5).

Requirements:
1) Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. It can be downloaded (5 MB download) at:
http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm40.htm

2) Microsoft .NET Framework Redistributable. It can be downloaded (20 MB download) at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/downloads/sample.asp?url=/MSDN-FILES/027/001/829/msdncompositedoc.xml

3) Internet Explorer version 5.01 or later

4) The computer display must support a resolution of 1024X768 or higher (800X600 is too small).

Documentation:
Documentation for BGEdit can be found by accessing the Help menu in the application or by doubleclicking the file BGEdit.htm."

BTD Editor readme makes no reference to Java.

That any help?

Works fine for me with XP and always has, can't remember if it requires Java but I don't think so. But check the read me and that you are doing this:

Run by doubleclicking on BTDEdit.pif (the one with the MS-Dos icon), not BTDEdit.exe

Hope that helps
